FORTY percent of Australians believe some ethnic groups do not belong in the country with one in 10 having outwardly racist views, a new study shows.

New South Wales tops the list with racist views, but lead researcher on the project Kevin Dunn puts it down to Sydney being the focus of international migration to Australia.

The study, led by human geography and urban studies Professor Dunn and his team from the University of Western Sydney, reveals racism in Australia has waned over the years but the figures remain high.

MELBOURNE’S Indian and Pakistani taxi drivers are being bashed and robbed by African youth gangs.

And there are fears the number of attacks reported to Victoria Police is only the tip of the iceberg.

The hot spot for inter-racial violence is Melbourne’s inner north. This year between May 8 and August 2 there were 12 reported robberies on taxi drivers in Flemington, Moonee Ponds and Ascot Vale.

Police will not officially acknowledge any particular ethnic group is a target, or that any other group is carrying out the crimes.

AN INDIAN-AUSTRALIAN DOCTOR who took “upskirt” photographs of female patients while administering spinal injections has been struck off indefinitely.

The Medical Professional Conduct Tribunal today ruled that Gurmit Dhillon be banned from practice because of the humiliation and distress caused to his victims.

The 65-year-old is currently serving a 14-month non-parole period for two counts of indecent assault and 15 counts of indecent behaviour.

Between September 2004 and November 2005, Dhillon treated nine women with prolotherapy, or pain-relieving injections to the spine.

A MAN posing as an energy meter reader has been charged over the indecent assault of a Davoren Park woman yesterday.

Police will allege the man, 28, from Klemzig, posed as a power company meter reader to gain entry to the woman’s Westbury St home.

The man, who is of Indian appearance, allegedly “conned” his way into the victims home suggesting he was a power company meter reader who needed to enter her Westbury St home.
