VICTORIA’S Police Commissioner Christine Nixon is warning SA’s tough new laws will “merely drive the visible appearance of organised motorcycle gangs (OMCGs) underground, where the criminal activity will continue to function”.

The tough anti-bikie laws make it an offence for outlaw motorcycle club members or people with criminal records to meet more than six times a year.

“Rather than displacing OMCG organised crime activity from SA, it is likely the new laws will increase police-OMCG conflict,” she said.

“Victoria Police does not support proposals intended to deal with OMCG members in a similar manner to that of terrorist groups by prohibiting groups and individual …

GYPSY Jokers from across Australia have gathered in Adelaide for a funeral which would be illegal under new anti-bikie laws introduced by the State Government.

The laws – the first of their kind in Australia apart from the federal anti-terror legislation – have been attacked by lawyers and civil liberatarians as draconian and an erosion of individual rights, particularly freedom of association.
The laws contain provisions that members of outlaw motorcycle clubs can only associate with direct family members such as their parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents and children.
Anyone who breaches the laws – whether they are bikies or individuals having contact with bikies can be jailed for up to five years.

The bikies were farewelling club president Wayne “Chiller” McGrath, 42, a father of four and part-owner of four tattoo parlours, who suffered a fatal heart attack last week while exercising on a treadmill at his Virginia home.

His sudden death prompted public tributes from Gypsy …

ATTORNEY-GENERAL Michael Atkinson has called a senior magistrate “daft” and “delusional” for calling for jail overcrowding to be factored into sentencing.

The ferocity of the criticism from Mr Atkinson, of deputy chief magistrate Andrew Cannon yesterday stunned the Adelaide legal community.

Mr Atkinson’s office was on the back foot last night to justify his language, and some of the grounds he had used to blast Dr Cannon, who is an adjunct professor of law and the state’s senior mining warden.

Mr Atkinson launched …

Prejudice

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prejudice

Definition
The word prejudice refers to prejudgment: making a decision before becoming aware of the relevant facts of a case or event. The word has commonly been used in certain restricted contexts, in the expression ‘racial prejudice’. Initially this referred to making a judgment about a person based on their race, before receiving information relevant to the particular issue on which a judgment was being made; it came, however, to be widely used to refer to any hostile attitude towards people based on their race. Subsequently the word has come to be widely so interpreted in this way in …

MAJOR bikie gangs have formed a fighting fund to mount a High Court challenge against controversial laws aimed at driving them out of the state.

The Advertiser has confirmed the gangs have begun raising funds to ensure the country’s best constitutional …
