A "violent extremist" has been shot dead by police after injuring six people in a stabbing rampage in an Auckland supermarket.

Three of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries in the terrifying attack in a supermarket in the Auckland suburb of New Lynn on Friday afternoon.

NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described the man as a terrorist motivated by "violent ideology and ISIS".

She said the man, whose name and age have not been released, was known to police and was under constant surveillance, including at the time of the attack.

"The police surveillance team and special tactical group who were part of that monitoring and surveillance shot and killed him in the space of roughly 60 seconds of the attack starting," she said.

The man lived in Glen Eden, in Auckland's west. He had been on a terror watch list since 2016, Ms Ardern said.

Police did not intervene before the man injured six people because they thought he was merely on a regular shopping trip in locked-down south-west Auckland.

Many details about the Sri Lankan national are under court-ordered suppression, Ms Ardern said.

"I can tell you that agencies were using every single possible means available to them to protect the New Zealand public from this individual. Every single possible means," she said.

Her adoptive parents, Ariel and Jerry "Austin" Robinson, are now charged with homicide by child abuse. A six-page police incident report describes how first responders rushed to the Robinsons' home on the afternoon of Jan. 14, 2021, after Mr. Robinson called 911. Little Tori was not breathing. EMTs performed CPR. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died. Investigators immediately suspected child abuse.

The key to Tori's murder lies in 17 redacted lines of the police report from a Simpsonville, South Carolina, police officer documenting his crime-scene interview with Ariel Robinson, who described an unknown incident involving her adopted daughter that had occurred the day before. The entire paragraph is blacked out -- an ominous chunk of hidden information about Tori's last day on the planet.

Thanks to her ubiquitous social media presence, however, we can fill in a lot of blanks about Ariel Robinson. She was a fame-chaser, an aspiring comedian, and a wannabe social media influencer who paraded her entire blended family (two biological sons, plus Tori and her two brothers, whom the Robinsons adopted all together) on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for clicks and likes.

Robinson had achieved minor notoriety as the Season 20 winner of the Food Network's "Worst Cooks in America" contest. She hosted a podcast with her husband and was set to launch a new YouTube this month called "Cooking, Comedy, and Convos." Her YouTube channel has now been deleted. But other dark clues remain.

I've devoted this column space to beautiful toddler Tori because you probably won't hear anything more about her in the "mainstream" media. That's because this homicide is wrapped up in a package of race and crime taboos you are not supposed to discuss. Robinson is Black. Tori was white. On her social media accounts, Robinson promoted Black superiority, bashed Donald Trump and cops, and griped about institutional racism.

Did child welfare bureaucrats overlook Robinson's mental health issues because of her race? Were they aware of her resentment of white people before they allowed her to adopt three white children? Did the system lower their standards to appease social justice and affirmative action crusaders? Were signs of abuse ignored out of deference to a rising celebrity whose politically correct status as a BLM-promoting do-gooder shielded her from scrutiny and criticism?

Ideas have consequences. So do lies. The event started because a man, Randy Weaver, received three conflicting court dates for a bench warrant related to firearms charges. He suspected there was a conspiracy against him and refused to surrender when government agents came down on him.

The FBI, U.S. Marshals and ATF all became involved.

Ultimately, Weaver's 14-year-old son, his wife Vicki and their dog were all killed by Marshals and FBI agents. Eventually, Weaver and his three daughters surrendered after an 11-day standoff.

The ATF is a law enforcement agency within the Justice Department, which is led by Attorney General Merrick Garland. The agency's goal is to safeguard the public from criminal organizations and activity, like the illegal use and trafficking of firearms.

Racist graffiti spotted on signs outside a future social housing development in Beach Haven, Auckland, have been labelled as "disappointing" by a local MP, who says they do not reflect how the community feels.

Shanan Halbert, Labour MP for Northcote, shared photos of the graffiti and said he was disappointed to see it in Beach Haven, a suburb with a long history of social housing.

"It makes me quite sad," he told the Herald. "We've done a lot of work to increase the number of warm dry homes for our most vulnerable."

Halbert shared the photos on his Facebook page as he wanted to call out the racism and discrimination that the graffiti represented.

In one of the photos, the sign at the Kāinga Ora housing site had been damaged with graffiti saying "gangs moving in soon".

"We urgently need more warm, dry homes for those most vulnerable.

"It concerns me that some people apply a different standard and level of scrutiny on social housing developments and those who will move into these homes than upon private developments. So I'm calling it out – racism and discrimination is not okay and doesn't reflect our community."

According to Halbert, the Kāinga Ora development will be the biggest in Beach Haven and a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes with the community to make sure the families moving in feel welcome and included.

The development will provide 70 new homes, including 57 two-bedroom, five three-bedroom and eight four-bedroom apartments on Beach Haven Rd, Mavis Place and Hayman Place.

He said the graffiti is particular disappointing considering "the community is doing so much work to support the development".

"People are very disappointed. We have a long history of social housing in Beach Haven that we are proud of. We want to work together to accommodate more families," the MP added.

"There's one thing I have been concerned about since becoming an MP and that is the level of scrutiny that people put across social housing versus private development. There's a bias there - conscious or unconscious - that we need to be aware of. When we think of social housing, we think of the negative elements."
