There are growing calls to ban the swastika and other hate symbols after a white power cell was seen in regional Victoria over the weekend.

About 20 far-right extremists descended on the Cathedral Range over the weekend, hoping to film a promotional video for their group, the National Socialist Network.

Fascist experts say the stunts are becoming more frequent, as the groups grow in size, with thousands of online followers

Jewish Supremacists Make Their Demands

After a reported increase in hate symbol sightings, Dvir Abramovich, chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, said it was time for state and territory leaders across Australia to "stop talking" and ban the insignia.

"We are seeing white supremacists and neo-Nazis take their online activities into the real world," Dr Abramovich told The New Daily.

"The beating of the drums has become louder and louder and the Nazis used the swastika as a rallying cry."

The New South Wales and Victorian governments have flagged the possibility of banning the hate symbol, but are yet to make serious moves.

Broad support for a ban

On Tuesday, a survey found most Australia agreed strongly with the idea of outlawing the swastika.

When asked if they agreed with the statement, "To protect Jewish people from antisemitism, the Nazi symbol should be banned in Australia", 62 per cent said they strongly agreed or agreed.

Only 12 per cent disagreed, and 25 per cent said they had no strong opinion. The survey encompassed 3459 respondents from across the country.

Dr Abramovich said it was clear there was wide public support for a ban on the symbol

The argument that banning the swastika might limit free speech was "superfluous", he said, as it only represented hate.

"A swastika represents genocide and extermination, it has no place in Australian society," Dr Abramovich said.

"This is about people who want to conduct a war of annihilation. Not just against the Jewish, but anyone who doesn't fit with their Arian {sic} world view."

'Fertile ground'

Four neo-Nazi groups banned in Europe and North America are operating in Australia, with a recent report warning the country is "fertile" ground for white extremism.

The report, prepared jointly by the UK's Centre for the Analysis of the Radical Right and UAE-based violent extremism research centre, Hedayah, found that after the Christchurch massacre, Australian white supremacists had become increasingly emboldened.

"Australia has become fertile ground for radical right extremist activism and violence," it read.

Director-general of ASIO Mike Burgess recently warned right-wing extremism had increased to 40 per cent of the agency's onshore terror-related workload over the past three years.

He told a parliamentary inquiry that a terrorist attack, from either right-wing or Islamic extremists, was imminent in the next 12 months.

"Given the growth we've seen in nationalist and racist violent extremism, we anticipate there will be a terrorist attack in this country in the next 12 months," he said.

Recruitment drives

Fascist expert Marxist Tom Tanuki said the groups had been working relentlessly to recruit more members.

Recent media coverage that sensationalised the National Socialist Network on a hiking trip in the Grampians helped them increase in size, he said.

"They are performing stunts because it gets the media coverage and the media coverage gets them a handful of new recruits," Mr Tanuki said.

"They come out and do outrageous stunts and they know they'll be talked about."

Mr Tanuki said although it's unclear how many people have signed up, any increase is concerning.

"These are small groups. They're not huge, but they had a huge boost in numbers. They've got a huge amount of interest," he said.

"It's a small number of very dangerous people and we need to treat it accordingly."

Over an encrypted messaging app Australian Nazi leaders share their ideology with thousands of followers from across the world and recruit new members within Australia.

The Grampians camping trip is celebrated as a roaring success – in one recent post, the group wrote: "The Grampians for the White man! Hail victory."

They also discuss the inquiry into extremism and share photos of members throwing white power salutes.

"The Lord gave us Adolf Hitler. Woe to those who are too scared to hail him," one post reads.

The Intent is to BAN EVERY SYMBOL Related to White Culture

It is going to take more than banning swastikas to deal with this growing tide of white supremacy, Mr Tanuki said.

"A ban on swastikas would limit their imagery, but the National Socialists group icon is not a swastika. It's not going to solve the problem," he said.

The community needs to understand who these people are and what they stand for, what it means when their sons sign up, or they realise they're neighbours with them, he said.

"If you know they're living down the road, you speak to your local council, to community groups. You band together," Mr Tanuki said


If you have some "friendly, neighbourhood White Nationalists " you should band together and talk to your council about getting you guys a hall where you can base your operations out of! Excerpt: Bennett Russell Maynard-Brown came before Adelaide Magistrates Court for the first time on Tuesday where he was remanded on continuing bail to return to court on August 19.

'It was just a video of the Christchurch massacre which was very wrong for me to have a copy of,' he said.

Maynard-Brown said he had converted to Islam in October last year and was 'a complete opposite to the monster in that video'.

A "violent extremist" has been shot dead by police after injuring six people in a stabbing rampage in an Auckland supermarket.

Three of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries in the terrifying attack in a supermarket in the Auckland suburb of New Lynn on Friday afternoon.

NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described the man as a terrorist motivated by "violent ideology and ISIS".[/b]

She said the man, whose name and age have not been released, was known to police and was under constant surveillance, including at the time of the attack.

"The police surveillance team and special tactical group who were part of that monitoring and surveillance shot and killed him in the space of roughly 60 seconds of the attack starting," she said.

The man lived in Glen Eden, in Auckland's west. He had been on a terror watch list since 2016, Ms Ardern said.

Police did not intervene before the man injured six people because they thought he was merely on a regular shopping trip in locked-down south-west Auckland.

Many details about the Sri Lankan national are under court-ordered suppression, Ms Ardern said.

"I can tell you that agencies were using every single possible means available to them to protect the New Zealand public from this individual. Every single possible means," she said.

The man lived in Glen Eden, in Auckland's west.

Scotland: A Nazi-obsessed white supremacist who glorified terrorist atrocities online and threatened to burn down a local mosque has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years

Sam Imrie, 24, of Glenrothes, Fife, was convicted of two terrorism charges and six others following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in October

At a sentencing on Thursday, Imrie was also added to the sex offenders register for 10 years after being found in possession of extreme pornography.

The 'despicable' Scotsman's collection included indecent images of children and sexually explicit images involving mutilated human corpses, found stored in a file on his computer named 'dead girl pics'.

Imrie, who the court heard idolised Adolf Hitler, was also convicted of setting fires - which he shared footage of online - and of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He was cleared of a third terrorism charge in which he was accused of planning an attack on the Fife Islamic Centre in Glenrothes.

The charge stemmed from statements he posted online suggesting he was going to live stream footage of 'an incident'.

Imrie then uploaded a video showing the exterior of the mosque before driving to an abandoned building in Thornton and filming himself setting fire to the doorway - pretending it was the Islamic Centre.

At trial, the court heard how Imrie had a photo of Hitler addressing a Nuremberg rally as his Facebook cover photo and that his password for his laptop was 'n****rkiller'. 

He also used Telegram and Facebook to glorify the mass killings carried out by convicted terrorists, including Anders Breivik and Brenton Tarrant, who between them slaughtered 128 innocent lives in separate attacks in New Zealand and Norway.

Imrie, who had swastikas plastered all over his wardrobe, also made racist comments about the Muslim and Jewish communities, which the charge stated he did with the intention of encouraging acts of terrorism.

Sentencing Imrie to seven-and-a-half years at Glasgow's High Court, Lord Mulholland said he was 'spreading hate' and told him to use his time in jail to 'remove hatred from your heart

He said Imrie revered white supremacists and referred to terrorists as heroes, lauding their kill counts of innocent people.

It came after the court heard that between June 20 and July 4, 2019, Imrie had information of a kind 'likely to be useful' to someone preparing an act of terrorism, namely copies of The Great Replacement by Tarrant, who killed 51 people at two mosques in New Zealand in 2019, and a manifesto by Breivik, who killed 77 people in two separate attacks in Norway in 2011

Lord Mulholland said: 'You were spreading hate and encouraging others to take terrorist action.

'Your conduct was despicable. You have no understanding or self awareness of the hate you sought to spread.

'Walk around any city, town or village and you will quickly find memorials to people of this country who gave their lives defending the freedoms you enjoy.'

He said the actions of mass murderers such as Breivik and Tarrant are to be 'reviled' and added: 'You should use your time in jail to reflect on your conduct and remove hatred from your heart

Lord Mulholland also imposed a five-year serious crime prevention order which will start on the day of his release.

Imrie, who the court heard posted on far-right websites from his bedroom, will also be subject to terrorism notification requirements for 15 years. 

The court heard that his mother Joyce Imrie had described her son as a 'loner' and a 'recluse'.

In her statement to police on the day after her son's arrest, Ms Imrie said: 'I would describe him as a loner who very rarely leaves his room

During trial, the High Court in Edinburgh heard a recording of an interview carried out with Imrie by police on July 8, 2019.

The accused told police he was a 'white nationalist'. Asked what that meant, he replied: 'It means I care about my race.'

At trial Imrie denied he thought white people were superior to non-whites, saying he believed the Chinese were superior.

He made no response when it was put to him that that view 'flies in the face of white nationalism'.
