I also only eat 1 meal a day but I also take a vitamin a few times a week.  I take my plate of food, nibble at it while I'm doing something, then put a lid on it and put it in the fridge when I'm not hungry. Some people love eating until they are full, it just makes me tired and feeling kind of sick.

I kind of cringe when I hear parents trying to be good parents and demanding their kid eat everything on their plate. Yeah, we know the kid needs to eat but it will eat when it is hungry.

I've read up on and tried the Paleo. diet for a while. Get a London broil, cut it into some slivers, and eat it.. it was very good, the texture was amazing and the fat just kind up turned into a non-juicy ball I could spit out. I tried it with A1 sauce (my fav) and you know what? It was better without the sauce. I felt very good after eating it. Almost glowing. I wouldn't do it too often because the type of iron in the animal meats increases the chances of colon cancer so you might want to include some veggies to fiber "it" out.

Bone marrow was an interesting test too. Better texture and flavor than I thought.

5. Paleolithic diet

What is it? Mimics the diet of a caveman and is similar to CSIRO Total Wellbeing diet, but eliminates more fruit and dairy. The idea is a clean approach to eating approach, getting rid of processed foods and going back to root vegetables, greens, lean meat, nuts and berries.

Verdict: Long term it is nutritionally inadequate for key nutrients like calcium. Better to use as a base but add in some low-fat dairy.

Quote from: Rev.Cambeul on Mon 07 Jan 2013Without intending it, I seem to have adopted this style of dieting. Eat once a day, preferably fruit and nuts but in reality whatever I have - and not too much at that. Then skip a day or two or three at a time. It's less a chosen diet than an old habit, not getting hungry and an acknowledged method of saving money - and as I've aged, I realised that it is a way to keep the weight down by not over-indulging. Those who know me well can best judge whether I live by a healthy and effective diet or not. The best I can say is that it suits me, my lifestyle and my lack of interest in food.

Going Salubrious for March ...

Last year, because of the Chinese Virus and my Nig dying, I wasn't able to get out as much, and was basically forced to sit around on my arse. I might keep my mind busy endlessly working on the website and forum, and keeping up with correspondence as are my duties as a Creator, but that doesn't keep the weight down. I don't know how much weight I've put on, but it's enough to be annoying: Clothes are too tight, back is always sore, my leg muscles (instead of my feet) are always sore, and it's difficult to stand and walk. I've had problems with my feet since my days in the army, but I've always managed to exercise my leg muscles, hit the boxing bag, lift some weights .... Not so much last year.

So, in December when I recognised the problem after Nig's death and started to get back into doing outdoors things, I could barely do anything without a full week of rest afterwards. I began regular exercise again, which has helped me to lose a few inches around the gut. Since it's still the beginning of the month, I thought why not go totally Salubrious for March?

I have lived the totally Salubrious lifestyle before - four years in the early 90's. I was dirt poor and ate badly. Salubrious Living is not for the poor. I'm still poor today by a lot of standards, but I'm way better off than I was back then. I'm not really into fancy foods and I typically don't over indulge, but I thought that I'd give Salubrious Living another go just for March - but this time instead of utter crap, I'd eat the better fruits and nuts I never could have afforded all those years ago.

I'll let you know if a single month of Salubrious Living makes any difference.

Racial Greetings Brother, your article about Salubrious Living was great. I hope it helps to keep the weight off for you.

It gave me the idea for my post. 23 R!

Quote from: Rev.Cambeul on Fri 04 Mar 2022I began regular exercise again, which has helped me to lose a few inches around the gut. Since it's still the beginning of the month, I thought why not go totally Salubrious for March?

It's been a month eating carrot sticks, nuts, fruit and a single Greek Yiros (flat bread, salad, garlic and lean lamb in a wrap). I've lost a lot of fat that was hanging from my neck, jeans are easier to do up and no longer cut into my gut, and jackets fit better. My back is feeling better, it's easier to stand up straight and keep my shoulders back instead of hunching over like I was beginning to do. I'm also sleeping better, but I'll put that down to adding slats of wood under my mattress.

I checked my blood pressure today. Normally it's a lot higher, but 118 over 88 is good. (I was hoping for 123 over 88, but I can't have everything my way.)

Since I hadn't weighed myself in ten years - when I weighed 88KG - I bought some digital scales. I currently weigh 107KG/136LBS. I have no goals for an ideal weight, although 88 does sound good to me. For me, it's size that matters. As long as I'm fit for my age and lose the beer gut, I don't give a damn what weight I am.

So, for now I'll keep off the beer, and maintain the salubrious diet (within reason). If I mow the lawn and feel hot and warn out, then I can have a glass of beer. And perhaps a once a month healthy Greek Yiros.
