A WOMAN*boong* had her throat slashed and was left to die in a Tennant Creek property in an horrific stabbing police say was an act of domestic violence.

The woman, 48, and a man *boong*, 57, both suffered serious stab wounds to their throats.

Police found the alleged attacker, a 55-year-old manBoong, in the victim's front yard still holding the knife he allegedly used to stab the pair.

He allegedly had self inflicted stab wounds.

Police believe the victims were living together in the home but were yet to determine their relationship with the alleged attacker.

St John Ambulance paramedics and police were confronted with the bloody and chaotic scenes when they arrived at the Wosleley St residence on Thursday night.

An NT Police spokesman said all three were flown to Alice Springs Hospital and because of the life-threatening injuries investigators were yet to speak with the victims.

The woman, who has worked with disability services in Tennant Creek, was placed on life support while on board a Royal Flying Doctor Service flight to Alice Springs.

She was fighting for her life and had surgery late yesterday.

The alleged attacker has been arrested by police but is yet to be charged.

He remained in Alice Springs Hospital yesterday.

St John Ambulance spokesman Craig Garraway said the woman was lucky to be alive.

"She had very serious injuries to her throat. The cuts were quite deep," he said.

"It (the scenes at the property) was very confronting."

Extract: When it comes to domestic violence in Aboriginal communities, there has been an even more wilful exercise of politically correct blindness.

Writing in The Australian last week, Warren Mundine, who chairs the Prime Minister's Indigenous Advisory Council, said indigenous women in Australia are 34 times more likely to be hospitalised from domestic abuse, yet most media fail to report such issues — even when a woman is killed in broad daylight by her partner in a public park.

Those indigenous leaders who do speak out "are often cut down", he wrote.

He is, again, absolutely correct. No more so than in any discussion about the courageous Bess Price and her daughter Jacinta, who have endured abuse because of their discussion of the blight of ­violence in communities they are familiar with in Central Australia.

For their courageous truth-telling, they have been vilified. Just as Cape York leader Noel Pearson was 15 years ago when he labelled welfare as "poison" to Aboriginal people.

But what are we, as a culture, doing to attack this evil — not much.

The issue of family violence among Aboriginal Australians has become politicised, just as the rate of Aboriginal incarceration is doomed to become because of a kneejerk decision to hold a royal commission into the treatment of teenage criminals based on a hysterical report on recidivist offenders at the Don Dale juvenile detention centre.

There is no institute mustering its forces to examine why crime is so high among the most welfare-dependent group in our society and no one outside the law enforcement bodies has been tasked to eradicate this malaise.

We don't turn a blind eye to cancer — why do we turn a blind eye to the obvious serial failures of policy?

Why are the luvvies getting excited with the notion of reconciliation when there are real problems to be treated?

Why did Opposition Leader Bill Shorten unwisely suggest the possibility of a treaty — opening up yet another topic for interminable discussion — when there are real issues of ­violence to fight for?

There is exactly the same urgent need to deal with social ills as there is to defeat cancer but the struggles get lost in a morass of blaming and shaming, virtue signalling and vain halo-polishing exercises. <-- He means libtards and Abos BLAME WHITEY while libtards take credit for giving Abos a pat on the head, handing over some cash and treating them like retarded children incapable of looking after themselves.

There may be some researchers in institutes who seek personal aggrandisement from their toils, but nowhere near the number of poseurs who are heralded on the ABC and within the Fairfax media as keepers of the nation's cultural and spiritual codes.

Isn't it astonishing — and tragic — that in our children's lifetimes there may be cures for a number of cancers but in that same time span many children will be lost to cultural plagues such as drug and ­alcohol abuse and violence in our nation?

UPDATE: POLICE have charged the man accused of stabbing a police officer six times with a screwdriver in Jabiru.

Acting Commander of Crime Travis Wurst said the man was facing six charges, including assaulting a police officer and recklessly endangering life.

He was also charged with resisting police, being armed with an offensive weapon, unlicensed driving and low range drink driving.

The man is accused of stabbing Jabiru Sergeant Robert de Vos in the neck and shoulder as he came to the aid of two terrified women.

He was allegedly stabbed by the accused as he reached to take the keys out of the ignition of his stalled car.

The man was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Local Court on November 8.

A/Commander Wurst said detectives continued to investigate the incident and called on any members of the public who saw a green Mitsubishi Pajero or a silver Ford Territory driving around the Jabiru township on Monday to contact police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

EARLIER: A REMOTE cop coming to the aid of two women who were running for their lives was stabbed six times in the neck and shoulder by a man allegedly armed with a screwdriver.

Jabiru officer in charge Sergeant Rob de Vos was sleeping in his quarters when he was woken by a car crashing through the station gates.

He was confronted by two frightened women who were allegedly fleeing a man following a confrontation.

Police alleged he spotted Sgt de Vos, but attempts to flee failed when his car stalled.
When the brave cop reached to take the keys out of the ignition, it is alleged he was brutally stabbed.

Despite his injuries, Sgt de Vos arrested the man before calling out to his teenage daughter for help.

Acting Commander of Crime Travis Wurst praised Sgt de Vos's efforts to stay composed and his commitment for turning up to his shift only hours after the attack.

"The officer in Jabiru who was stabbed last night was treated at the Jabiru Clinic and because of his dedication to duty he tried to report for duty this morning. That shows the intent of the person of his ability to do his job," he said.

"He's a long standing remote police officer who was injured. He went to assist those who were in need. He got out of bed and assisted and this was the outcome." Yesterday police taped off the scene as investigators scoured a jeep at Tasman Cres.

The attack comes just a day after an Alice Springs officer was allegedly bitten on the hand by a 28-year-old man at a community south of The Gap on Monday night.

It was the third attack on an officer in less than a week after Constable Nick Carter was assaulted outside Monsoons on early Saturday morning.

NT Police Association president Paul McCue said a person who assaulted an officer should face the maximum penalty.

"Once again, we have seen one of our officers attacked overnight in Jabiru for just doing his job, trying to help members of the community. "This, on top of the cowardly attack on an officer in Mitchell St over the weekend, shows once again severe penalties must be applied to those who assault police," he said.

A WOMAN was brutally thrown to the ground and dragged by a mugger as he attempted to pull a handbag from her grasp.

The attack was captured on CCTV in the carpark of the Hibiscus shopping centre in Leanyer last night.

The footage shows a man walk up behind the 67-year-old victim at 10.40pm. He then slings the woman to the ground as he tries to rip the handbag from her grasp.

Serious Crime Squad Detective Acting Senior Sergeant David Allan said the victim was dragged for several metres.

"Police and St John Ambulance attended, and the woman was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for swelling and grazing to her legs and shoulder. She has since been released," he said.

The offender is described as being of indigenous appearance, of slim build, aged between 18 and 25 years, with dark, collar-length wavy hair and a beard.

PARAMEDICS in Alice Springs were targeted in a rock throwing incident as they drove down the Stuart Highway in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The ambulance received minor damage and crews were able to continue on after being hit by rocks outside the Hungry Jacks around 2.30am.

"Luckily in this instance the crew wasn't injured and there was only minor damage to the vehicle," St Johns spokesman Craig Garraway said.

"But it's very disappointing. These paramedics are trying to help people and an incident like this could mean the difference between an ambulance arriving in time to save a life, and being stuck on the side of the road with a rock through the window."

United Voice Paramedics Union branch secretary Erina Early said rock throwing attacks were dangerous.

"These constant attacks on paramedics need to stop," she said.

"People need to respect paramedics. They're there to do a job and they're being treated in a way that shows total disrespect.

"Attacks like these can take paramedics off the road and they may not be around to save a life and it could be your life that they have to save, so the assaults need to end."

Rock throwing is becoming a growing issue in Alice Springs, where a baby was covered in glass two weeks ago after a rock smashed the window of a car as it travelled down Anzac Hill.

In another incident an ATG Downunder coach window was hit as it travelled through The Gap.

A RUM thief*thieving boong drunkard slapped a female bartender after she asked him to return a stolen bottle of grog, a court has heard.

Jonathon Lauder, 31, walked behind the bar at the Tennant Creek Hotel, hid the rum bottle under his clothes and started to leave the pub about 1.30pm on July 3 this year.

When the female staff member approached Lauder and asked him to bring the bottle back, he slapped her and ran away.

Lauder was sentenced to two years' jail in the NT Supreme Court for robbery.

Chief Justice Michael Grant described the theft as "clumsy and opportunistic".

"Slapping the hotel employee was inexcusable but it was of a relatively low level in terms of the violence that is sometimes employed in the commission of robberies," he said. "You have displayed a continuing attitude of disobedience of the law.

"Your prior criminal history also shows that you have a dangerous propensity for alcohol-fuelled violence."

Police located Lauder at 3.20pm that day at a house in Tennant Creek. When officers arrived he jumped the fence, but was eventually found and arrested.

He returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.223 per cent.

The court heard the victim was "very apprehensive" to work in the hotel because she was worried she would be assaulted again.

"She ultimately stopped working at the hotel and even to the time of making that statement ... she cannot forget what happened," Chief Justice Grant said.

A non-parole period of 18 months was ordered.
