A NINE-year-old boy and a gang of tween burglars (abbo sporns )have been caught allegedly stealing from a Palmerston apartment building, as police warn of a January crime spree. 
 
Superintendent Daniel Shean said police made 36 arrests for property crime between January 1 and Monday, while seven stolen cars were recovered from Darwin and Palmerston in just 24 hours to 3pm yesterday.

"Unfortunately there is an element of youth within our community that have little regard for other people's personal property or the law," Supt Shean said.

:angelThe two oldest of the Palmerston trio are only 11 and 12 and will face youth court; the nine-year-old has been let off.

Police say they walked into the CBD building about 7.40pm on Monday and stole cash and caused $50 damage. They were found in Moulden on Tuesday.

Yesterday, the NT News revealed the baby-faced gangsters taking to Facebook to show off their weapons, loot and drugs.

Darwin man Joshua Butler is using social justice website change.org to petition the Territory Government to take tougher action on repeat ­offenders. The petition has gained more than 300 supporters since posting on Monday.

"The residents of the Northern Territory have the right to feel safe within their homes and in the general community," Mr Butler writes.

"Unfortunately our current catch-and-release process isn't working and we the community are calling on our elected members to take charge and create change. We want to see harsher penalties enforced on criminals who are involved in the theft of property/vehicles, especially repeat offenders."

But Supt Shean said most of the property crime could have been avoided if residents had taken proper precautions.

"For Palmerston alone, some 50 per cent of residential premises unlawfully entered were as a result of the house being left unlocked, while 23 per cent of the unlawful entries were as a result of the offender poking a hole through the flyscreen door and unlocking it."

A BREAK-IN at a Darwin real estate agent's home sparked a nightmarish series of crimes across Darwin, forcing a couple to move out of their home. 
 
A group of men, who are yet to be caught, broke into the home of real estate agent Kim Farrar, on December 7, stealing five sets of keys to properties she was displaying.

Ms Farrar arranged within hours for locks to be changed at all the properties, but the thieves, armed with the now-useless keys, have repeatedly tried to break in to a unit at Fannie Bay. They also tried it on at several of the other affected properties.

Ms Farrar said that the break-in had put her on edge.

"I'm awake every night at 3am checking my house," she said. "Crimes like this seem to be out of control, I think the people of Darwin have had enough."

But Ms Farrar said she felt the most sympathy for her clients.

"These people are terrified," she said.

The owner of the Fannie Bay unit, who asked not to be named, said a group of six men ABBOS had tried to break in repeatedly since the theft of the keys.

"The police seem to think that they'll keep trying until they get in," she said.

"The whole situation is compounded by the fact that these people are on ice."

Ms Farrar and the unit owner say police have told them that such brazen break-ins are often committed by people battling a serious addiction to the drug. The unit owner has moved out, and has taken the property off the market.

"I'd rather not be in the house when they do break in," she said.

"I don't want anyone to be there when it does happen."

The owner praised police, who she said had arranged extra patrols.

Police have raised concerns about vigilante justice being touted on social media.

"We urge community members not to take the law into their own hands," Sen Sgt Helen Braam said.

"As a victim of crime myself, I appreciate the frustration that people feel.

"(But) people who take the law into their own hands run the risk of committing crimes themselves, and ending up making a bad situation worse."

A MAN accidentally speared his ex-partner with a knife after he armed himself against her angry relatives – while her four children were asleep in the house. 
 
Graham Ernest Quintrell, 32, admitted endangering serious harm to Charlene Puruntatameri.

NT Supreme Court Justice Graham Hiley said Quintrell had shown "genuine remorse", gave the victim aid and did not attempt to escape justice after the assault at her home on Zenith Court, Woodroffe.

The pair had broken up but he did some gardening and mowed the lawn for her on January 2, 2014. Her family arrived from the Tiwi Islands.

Everyone got drunk.

A neighbour complained about the noise and Quintrell told one man to be quiet. A fight broke out and the victim's family chased him away. But he returned and four men confronted him with steel bars, a metal rake and a hedge trimmer, the court heard. He was chased inside the house.

One man struck him on the leg with a hedge trimmer, the court heard.

Quintrell armed himself with a kitchen knife and was preparing to fight when Ms Puruntatameri told him to put down the weapon.

He flung the knife at her but didn't mean to hit her.

The blade pierced the left side of her chest. She was treated at RDH for a collapsed lung and internal bleeding.

Justice Hiley told Quintrell: "You were strongly provoked ... (but) you should not have gone back to the house."

Quintrell was sentenced to 18 months in prison, backdated for 216 days spent on remand.

The sentence was suspended on a two-year bond.

A PALMERSTON man knocked unconscious in a violent street mugging says he spent two days waiting on a bed in the corridor of Royal Darwin Hospital before eventually discharging himself out of frustration. 
 
James Hamper, 23, also claims he had to ask nurses for something to eat after the food trolley staffer kept skipping him in the hallway.

"It made me feel really embarrassed, especially when people kept walking past me and asking what had happened," he said.

"It wasn't very nice ... I was parked in a hallway and forgot about for two days.

"The worst bit was having to ask if I could have a shower and even have a toothbrush and toothpaste."

An RDH spokeswoman said the patient was discharged from ward 2B after one day, not two.

The hospital has come under fire in recent months over claims of double-bunking patients. The official opening of the $18 million medi-hotel last October was designed to ease bed block.

The medi-hotel was built two years ago but the CLP Government decided to use it as a forced alcohol rehabilitation centre before reverting to its original purpose.

In an apparent mugging, Mr Hamper said he was hit in the back of the head with what he believed was a rock on Tuesday night as he was walking through Moulden back to his house.

He said he was repeatedly kicked in the head before the attacker took off with a packet of cigarettes.

He was knocked out cold for two hours before being found by a passing cyclist and rushed to the Emergency Department by St John Ambulance. Police attended the scene but Mr Hamper was yet to make a formal statement about the attack.

While he does not remember much of the bashing Mr Hamper said he recalled being in incredible pain after waking, and spent 12 hours in the ED before being transferred with concussion to the corridor of Ward 2.

"The nurses didn't do much for me because they were busy doing other stuff, then when I got over it and told them I wanted to go home they told me I couldn't because they had to do other tests," said Mr Hamper, who only relocated from Queensland two weeks ago.

After discharging himself he was advised to return to the hospital the next day to receive more painkillers.

Mr Hamper is still sporting two black eyes and has recurring headaches, but is recovering at home.

BRUISED, battered and bleeding, 49 year-old Tony Basilico says he's lucky to be alive. 
 
The victim of a terrifying home invasion, Mr Basilico was repeatedly bashed over the head by an intruder inside his Devon Park home.

Just before 6.30am, Mr Basilico woke after hearing noises in his Plymouth Ave property and discovered a man, of Aboriginal appearance and a woman, caucasian, inside the house.

It was then he was repeatedly struck with is believed to be a replica pistol as Mr Basilico tried his best to defend his 77 year-old father Luigi who also lives at the property.






   
"It's bizarre,' Mr Basilico said.

"The gun ... it was so scary and he just clobbered me with it.

"He was hitting me with it and asking 'where's the money' and I used a drawer to protect myself from it."






   
The 49 year-old then ran to his neighbour's property, trailing blood, to get help.

When they got back, the intruders, who by this stage were in the backyard, proceeded to throw objects at them.

"I woke up to Tony banging on my windows," one neighbour, also named Tony, said.






   
"He said someone was trying to kill him ... it could have been a murder.

"We heard them around the back and that's when Tony grabbed the woman and tried to pin her down," another neighbour, George, said.

"That's when the guy just started throwing piping at us and trying to hit us with whatever he could."






All three victims received minor injuries, two, including Mr Basilico were taken to the Royal Adelaide hospital for treatment.

Mr Basilico says he's lucky to be alive.

"It's just crazy that no one got really hurt," he said.

"It's lucky my father wasn't hurt in all of this — I'm a bit bruised and battered but I'll be okay."

Neighbours say it's a shock to awake to such a horrific scene.

"You just don't expect to wake up and see someone covered in blood and yelling — you know?," neighbour, Tony, said.

"It's like something out of a movie."

A short time later about 7.15am, on Devonport Tce at Prospect, an occupant found an intruder in his home who then ran from the house before trying to steal the victims car.

He was unsuccessful and fled from the premises.

Police are investigating possible links between both break-ins.

A SENIOR police officer has described CCTV footage of an attack on two girls by a group of four other teenage girls as one of the worst she has ever seen. 
 
Superintendent Helen Braam said two 16-year-old girls were left bloodied and bruised after the attack – in which two of the attackers were aged just 13 – in the Todd Mall in Alice Springs about 5pm on Monday.

Four girls – two aged 13, one 15 and one 16 – spent Monday night in Alice Springs Watch House. They were charged on Tuesday morning.

"It was absolutely horrendous – it looks like a 'have you been talking about me' sort of thing," Supt Braam said.

"It's one of the worst attacks I've seen."

CCTV operators guided officers to the alleged attackers, leading to their arrests.

Supt Braam said the two alleged victims were sitting in the mall talking to a male friend when they were approached by the group of four.

"One of the victims knew one of the offenders, who had words with her," she said.

Supt Braam said the attacker threw punches and pulled the victim's hair before kneeing her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground.

Then it gets really ugly.

"The other three then join in, kicking, stomping and hitting her with a stick," she said. The male friend then tried to intervene, and "has copped a few trying to separate them".

"The other female is standing off to one side, and once the male companion has managed to protect the first victim, the attackers have left her and gone over to the other girl and laid into her."

The alleged attackers have been charged with assault and engaging in violent conduct.

Again.. this article has all the hallmarks of an abo crime! Do you think white kids would do a crime so bad the Alice Springs Cop head honcho would state that is one of the worst he ever saw?.... and children so young !

What hope have they got? You can bet any money abos were involved!
