Another  day of wild boong lawlessness involving five stolen cars, attempted carjackings, petrol station drive-offs, car spikes to stop a stolen car and a tactical response group raid on a house in Tiwi has ended in the arrest of seven juveniles and an adult.
Those arrested were aged between 12 and 18 and the NT News understands some were already on bail when arrested and all were known to police.

The anarchy played out on the streets of Darwin and Palmerston from 1pm Tuesday until the early hours of Wednesday morning reads like something from a the video game Grand Theft Auto.
It took a police major operation involving up to 20 police from Tactical response, Strike Force Trident, the Serious Crime Unit, General Duties, and the Dog Operation unit to bring the four girls and four boys undone.
Police arrested three of the girls when they deployed road spikes to stop the car they were driving on Lee Point Road Leayner at about 8.30pm Tuesday.
The car was allegedly stolen earlier by juveniles from an 81 year-old woman while she was posting her mail at Anula. The most brazen attack took place earlier in the day at Alawa when juveniles pulled up alongside a woman motorist and jumped out and tried to force their way into her stationary car. The quick thinking woman driver planted her foot and sped away forcing the juveniles to jump back into the stolen vehicle and flee.
Police Commander Brent Warren said throughout the operation police were tracking five cars that had been reported stolen and juveniles were all switching from a number of those cars.
He said three of the five cars were recovered by police and are being examined for more evidence.
"Following the arrest of the three juvenile girls at about 8.30pm the remainder of the gang were captured several hours later," he said.
"Some of the suspects were spotted running into a house in Calvert St, Tiwi after dumping another allegedly stolen car. The house surrounded before Tactical Response and other units moved in at 1.30am."
A juvenile suffered a dog bite attempting to flee over a fence after police went in.
Commander Warren said police believe the gang are "largely" responsible for the recent spate of home and business break-ins and car thefts that have left a trail of damage and destruction in their wake.
]"We believe this group is a big part of the youth cohort which has been causing much of the trouble," he said.

A UNI student punched in the face while sitting on a city-bound bus is fearful of using the public transport system she relies on.

The student, 23, was returning to the city on a bus from Casaurina on Tuesday afternoon when a drunk woman swung at her before getting off at Westralia St, Stuart Park.


The woman said the alleged perpetrator had yelled at her earlier on the bus ride, but she tried to calm the situation by smiling and keeping to herself.

But the agitated attacker lashed out, striking the woman on her wrist and head.

Despite the violent attack none of the 20 passengers on board offered to help her.

"What's more shocking is that not one person on the bus apart from the driver asked me if I was OK," she said.

The woman said no one confronted the attacker and she got off the bus and walked away.

"It felt like it was a normal. I wasn't injured in a physical way but mentally I don't feel safe going on a bus."

The woman reported the assault to police and an NT Police spokeswoman confirmed investigators were seeking CCTV of the assault(The boongs most likely caused) from the bus.

Last year astounding statistics revealed a 55 per cent increase of assaults on bus driversand led Labor to commit to improving public transport safety.

A Government spokeswoman said a newly formed Darwin Bus Network Consultative Committee would meet for the first time next week.

The committee includes representatives from bus operators, the Transport Workers Union, police and security contractors.

The group will address security and safety issues facing passengers and bus drivers.

The young uni student said in the five years since she arrived in the Territory assaults on buses had not improved.

"In my opinion we need more security officers. Nearly every time I get on a bus there is yelling or a combination of alcohol in back pockets or in plastic bottles."

The teen was one of four youths captured walking past Beauty of Tatum before shattering the glass doors and rummaging through drawers.


Owner Kani Tezaris said the footage was "heartbreaking" for the fledgling business, which only opened two months ago.


Her business was one of three shops vandalised in another crime spree at the retail precinct in Millner.


"They threw a big paver through from the garden bed in front of my shop and shattered the glass," she said.


Ms Tezaris said in less than three minutes the teen caused thousands of dollars in damage,


Territory Police Duty Superintendent Rob Farmer said the break-ins were just part of another spate of crime across Darwin and Palmerston on Saturday night.


Two boys aged 12 and 13 were arrested after attempting to break into the Red Cross charity shop on Essington Ave in Gray.


He said the youths attempted to get into the business but failed.


Three cars were stolen from homes in Woodroffe, Moulden and Driver.


He said youths jumped the fence at the ABC Childcare centre on Dick Ward Dr in Nightcliff and smashed a glass door.
The footage on the original shows that they are Abo kids.

TEN youths involved Abos inthe wild brawl at Casuarina Square last week have been officially banned from the shopping centre.The bans were handed to school students and teens identified from footage of the fight by police and the shopping centre's management.
Centre Manager Mardi Ashkine said along with the bans the shopping centre had lobbied for a permanent police presence in the form of a police beat to return to the shopping centre.


She said police would have a strong presence at the shopping centre this afternoon, a week since the brawl involving 50 school kids in the food court took place.


"We met with Lauren Moss and pitched the idea of bringing the police beat back. She has put it in writing to the Chief Minister," she said.
"A police presence would certainly assist us. We want to prevent the behaviour in the first place and having a police presence would help us."

A YOUNG thief was drunk and high when he witnessed a minibus driver fall victim to a violent robbery — but instead of helping the cabbie, he stole his bag.Bradley Binsaris, 22, was handed a head sentence of 19 months' jail after he admitted a stealing charge in the NT Supreme Court.

Justice Graham Hiley told Binsaris: "What you did was callous."Taxi drivers deserve help, especially when they are working late at night to earn a living, which this man was."

Justice Hiley said there was no explanation for the offending except that Binsaris had been drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis.
He had also taken ice.

Justice Hiley said intoxication was "no excuse.

The court heard Binsaris went outside when he heard the disturbance at a nearby residence on Davoren Circuit, in Moulden, late on April 27 last year.

mThe victim was distracted, sitting in the driver's seat while trying to kick away his attacker and close the door, when Binsaris opened the passenger side door and snatched the bag containing a European leather jacket and money belt.

He was caught on the taxi security camera.

Defence lawyer Ambrith Abayasekara said Binsaris had not colluded with the violent robber and the offence was "opportunistic".

He said his client, who had an ice habit, would comply with conditions to seek rehabilitation, if released on a suspended sentence.

A LONG time resident of the Knotts Crossing Resort in Katherine has been hit in the face with a metal broom handle after he heard footsteps and went outside to investigate.

The man was inside the home he had built for himself when he was woken by footsteps on his roof on Tuesday about 4am, police said in a statement.

When he went outside to investigate, the well-liked 76-year-old resident was allegedly set upon by one of them.

Detective Senior Constable Karl Gunderson said it appeared the man had been hit in the face with a metal broom handle, leaving him with significant injuries.

He drove himself to Katherine Hospital but his injuries were so bad he was then flown to Royal Darwin Hospital.

The elderly resident has lived at the Knotts Crossing Resort in Katherine since at least 2006.

Resort manager Joanna Pace said the man's eye was badly hurt in the attack.

"He's a really nice guy who has been living here permanently for years. He takes real pride in the property and maintains his living areas beautifully; he's always out mowing," Ms Pace said.

She said the structure the man built at the caravan park was his home as much as any house.

Ms Pace said residents were shocked by the attack but life was going on as usual at the park.

Earlier in the night, the group was reportedly spotted by another woman at the park but they disappeared without any confrontation.

The males are described as of indigenous appearance.

It's thought there were at least three people involved.

A Royal Darwin Hospital spokeswoman yesterday said the man was in a stable condition. He is expected to be released from hospital in the coming days.

The broom stick attack follows the unrelated but equally disturbing golf club attack on an 87-year-old woman in Alice Springs, which left the victim with facial injuries and a broken tooth.

The alleged assailant, a 15-year-old boy, was the third youth arrested over the crime on February 17.

It was the second time the elderly woman's home had been targeted by callous thieves in a week

In the latest round of crime statistics for Katherine, assault figures remained steady while house break-ins had increased 20 per cent. Commercial break-ins fell 26 per cent and property damage was up 13 per cent.
