NT Police are calling for the public assistance to find 17-year-old Liam Whitehurst who is wanted for questioning over the theft of a Subaru WRX from Bakewell on Friday night and for fleeing the scene of a crash on Victoria Drive in Gray yesterday.

He is also a person of interest in other property crimes. Police hold concerns for the safety of the community and of Whitehurst.

MAN armed with a knife attempted to hold up a service station but ran away when a customer arrived.

Police are calling for any witnesses who saw the knife-wielding man at the United Service station on Bagot Rd in Ludmilla at 9.15pm on Sunday.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Glenn Leafe said man asked staff for cigarettes and cash. "Another vehicle pulled into the station, which caused the offender to flee empty-handed," he said.

The offender is described as being of indigenous appearance, approximately 170cm tall and of thin build.
He was wearing a grey T-shirt, brown camouflage knee-length shorts and a dark bandana with white printing on the front.

A FEMALE police officer has been the victim of an alleged coward punch less than 24 hours after a 27-year-old man, who punched a male police officer, was given a six-month jail sentence which has sparked community outrage.


The policewoman and a male officer were attending a domestic disturbance at Bagot Community*Boong community*last night when a man, 33, they were talking to allegedly punched the female officer in the face.


Police say the officer was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital where she received treatment for injuries to her cheek and lip.


The alleged assailant is in police custody and expected to be charged with assault.


Facebook ran hot Tuesday with people voicing their anger over the sentence handed down for the attack on a police officer near Mitchell St in October last year.


On Monday, Steven Williame Smith, 27, was sentenced to six months jail, suspended after three months served, for his assault on Constable Nick Carter.


Following the assault Const Carter, who was punched in the face by Smith, was off work for five days and has no memory of the assault.


Facebook footage of the assault on Const Carter attracted 31,000 views and 86 shares.

TWO armed men are wanted by police after they broke into a house and attacked the occupant before stealing his Porsche and crashing it in Woodville Gardens.

The duo, one armed with a rifle while the other had a crowbar, smashed in the front door of the Bayly Street home in Hendon at around 1am on Wednesday.

They assaulted the victim and left him with facial injuries.

Mobile phones, iPads and cash were stolen from the property before the assailants fled in the victim's 2003 Porsche Cayenne.

A short time later, a crash involving the stolen Porsche was reported near the corner of Humphries Terrace and Eighth Avenue in Woodville Gardens.

Witnesses saw they saw a man abandoning the car and fleeing on foot.

He was described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, tall with long black hair and wearing a black leather jacket.

INCREASING break-ins to Darwin businesses were taken into account when police established Taskforce Sonoma targeting youth crime, Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw says.The latest NT Police statistics reveal commercial break-ins in Darwin increased by 63 per cent in the 12 months to November.
]In December, 72 cars were stolen in the Darwin and Palmerston region — an increase of 24 per cent.
The jump in crime rates were prior to the January spree which saw rampant vandalism to schools, charities and businesses.

Mr Kershaw said the latest statistics were a concern, particularly in the industrial area of Winnellie, which was hit hardest by thieves. He said police were considering introducing a 24/7 intelligence centre to co-ordinate faster response times to break ins.
"We're looking at a 24/7 intelligence co-ordination centre. We haven't had that before. We are looking at that now and how we can better respond and be faster in our response to these spikes in some of these areas," he said.
"But also we are examining how we can strengthen Taskforce Sonoma our youth taskforce which is very heavily focused on the prevention side of the house."
Mr Kershaw urged businesses to continue reporting crimes. "One of the things we want to say is we are doing the best we can and what we would really encourage is to continually report these matters as minor as they are.
"We do rely heavily on that intelligence and that information and we know that some businesses perhaps are not reporting those things.

Another  day of wild boong lawlessness involving five stolen cars, attempted carjackings, petrol station drive-offs, car spikes to stop a stolen car and a tactical response group raid on a house in Tiwi has ended in the arrest of seven juveniles and an adult.
Those arrested were aged between 12 and 18 and the NT News understands some were already on bail when arrested and all were known to police.

The anarchy played out on the streets of Darwin and Palmerston from 1pm Tuesday until the early hours of Wednesday morning reads like something from a the video game Grand Theft Auto.
It took a police major operation involving up to 20 police from Tactical response, Strike Force Trident, the Serious Crime Unit, General Duties, and the Dog Operation unit to bring the four girls and four boys undone.
Police arrested three of the girls when they deployed road spikes to stop the car they were driving on Lee Point Road Leayner at about 8.30pm Tuesday.
The car was allegedly stolen earlier by juveniles from an 81 year-old woman while she was posting her mail at Anula. The most brazen attack took place earlier in the day at Alawa when juveniles pulled up alongside a woman motorist and jumped out and tried to force their way into her stationary car. The quick thinking woman driver planted her foot and sped away forcing the juveniles to jump back into the stolen vehicle and flee.
Police Commander Brent Warren said throughout the operation police were tracking five cars that had been reported stolen and juveniles were all switching from a number of those cars.
He said three of the five cars were recovered by police and are being examined for more evidence.
"Following the arrest of the three juvenile girls at about 8.30pm the remainder of the gang were captured several hours later," he said.
"Some of the suspects were spotted running into a house in Calvert St, Tiwi after dumping another allegedly stolen car. The house surrounded before Tactical Response and other units moved in at 1.30am."
A juvenile suffered a dog bite attempting to flee over a fence after police went in.
Commander Warren said police believe the gang are "largely" responsible for the recent spate of home and business break-ins and car thefts that have left a trail of damage and destruction in their wake.
