White supremacists killed more people in the United States in 2021 than any other type of extremist, according to new data released last week by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

The ADL reported that "26 extremist-related murders in the United States in 2021" have been responsible for nearly three fourths of murders in the last decade. The report included regular, non-ideological crimes in its data, such as acts of domestic violence and violent robbery.

The ADL's Center of Extremism concluded that 29 people died at the hand of domestic extremists in 19 different incidents, compared to only 23 murders in 2020, but it is still lower than the number of murders committed in each of the previous five years.

Most murders are committed during extremist-related shooting sprees.

Compared to other extremist groups, two people were murdered by Black nationalists and one by Islamist extremists. Other major findings include:
 - 83% of extremist-related deaths were from firearms
 - Of 443 people killed by  extremists, three-fourths (333) were by right-wing extremists.
 - Of those 333 killings, 73% of them were by white supremacists in the last decade.
 - 14 of the extremist murders were committed as a part of ideological killings

"This data underscores an indisputable fact: far-right extremists pose the greatest domestic terror threat to the United States," said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.

The research conducted by the ADL shown only captures a fragment of how much extremist violence is out there, he said.

"Every year, extremists in the United States are involved in terrorist plots and acts, armed standoffs, shootouts with police, hate crimes, scams and cons, threats and harassment and a wide variety of other criminal acts."

A new nationwide poll has found increasing opposition for the "no jab no job" mandates, increasing support for rapid antigen testing for unvaccinated kiwis so that they can keep their job, and 1 in 3 vaccinated Kiwis saying that the vaccine mandate or pass requirements was a large factor in their decision to get vaccinated. A white supremacist jailed for sharing footage of the Christchurch terror attack has been arrested in Picton, hours after allegedly declaring he was off to a "public execution".

Christchurch man Philip Neville Arps, 47, was travelling up the country when he was arrested in Picton on Friday afternoon and charged with threatening to kill and using offensive language.

A charge sheet said Arps was at a BP petrol station in Linwood, Christchurch earlier that day, saying there was going to be a "public execution". "I've been promising it, I'll see you in seven to 10 years," he was quoted as saying on the charge sheet.

He was also accused of threatening to kill members of the public and police.

Arps, who used to own a white supremacy-themed insulation company, was jailed for 21 months in 2019 after he sent a video of the Christchurch terror attack to 30 people, and asked a friend to modify it by adding cross-hairs and a "kill count".

Arps was held in police custody over the weekend and appeared at the Blenheim District Court on Monday by audiovisual link from the Blenheim police station.

Police are asking the public for sightings of "dangerous" prisoner Michael Tautari after the 24-year-old went on the run after a crash in Northland late yesterday.

Tautari was granted compassionate bail to attend a tangi in Kawakawa, but failed to return to Northland Region Corrections Facility yesterday afternoon.

A police spokesperson said Tautari crashed into a fence along State Highway 1 in Oakleigh, south of Whangārei, about 7pm yesterday, before stealing another vehicle and heading north to the suburb of Raumanga.

He was last known to be in Raumanga but, because of ties to Auckland, police suspect he may have travelled south.

Tautari is about 165cm tall, of medium-to-small build and has a distinctive "Black Power" face tattoo.

A police spokesperson said he was considered dangerous and should not be approached.

"Police want to reassure the community we are doing everything we can to locate him.

"If you see him, please call 111 immediately."

A Corrections spokesperson encouraged anyone with relevant information to call police.
