Northern Territory police have conducted a series of raids on Groote and Bicketon Islands, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud at an Aboriginal land trust.

Territory police have been investigating the financial dealings of the Groote Eylandt Aboriginal Trust for almost a year.

The multi-million-dollar trust manages royalties paid to traditional owners by the local manganese mine.

Fraud Squad detectives have been in the Gulf of Carpentaria, searching properties on Groote Eylandt at Angurugu and Umbakumba, and on neighbouring Bickerton Island.

Officers have seized financial records and trust documents.

Last month, police seized vehicles and boats in far north Queensland which they allege were acquired through the improper use of trust funds.

Well they can sieze boats and vehicles.. but they can't get back the money the boongs drink up or gamble.. remember ATSIC? Cannot trust abbos one little bit at all!

A TERRITORY school has been closed after a teacher was hit on the back of the neck by a student with a baseball bat.
The attack, which happened on Monday, was the latest in a string of violent assaults on staff at Angurugu School on Groote Eylandt, east of Darwin.
Other attacks include a student smashing a window in the principal's office with an axe and a teacher having her hand broken after a student threw a chair, a table and a rubbish bin at her.
Another teacher was left bleeding after being bitten and one staff member was stabbed in the leg with sharpened pencils.
The NT News reported on a male teacher who was choked by a student and a female teacher who had to be flown off the island after a student threatened to rape her in March.



Education Union NT president Matthew Cranitch said the school had a long history of violence against teachers, which resulted in staff asking for the school to be closed yesterday.
"Sadly these types of attacks are continuing and it just highlights that this is a dangerous job, particularly in some remote communities," he said. "It's a tough school and it's a school that does have a high turnover of staff."

Mr Cranitch said he was pleased that the Education Department had listened to teachers' concerns. The school will remain closed until a community meeting has been held, and staff are confident behavioural and respect issues will be addressed.
Education Department deputy chief executive Eva Lawler said the school's closure was part of a comprehensive response.
"The officer in charge of police attended a staff briefing ... and is speaking with students about assaults and the law," she said.
"The school's senior indigenous adviser is meeting with community members to outline the consequences of violent behaviour.
"Counselling is being provided to school staff and their wellbeing is being monitored closely."

Alot of the people in the NT tell me that if you hit an Abbo on the highway , you keep moving and tell the cops later , because they will all come out of the bushes and jack you if you stop. Yesterday I was in the Bottle-o , they tried to evict a drunken "itinerant" and informed her that she wasn't going to be served. She fell down and tried to tell the staff that she was "broken " on her store and that she'd sue them.. the security dragged that stupid gin right outta there!


Every cab driver knows Abbos either won't pay or they'll make trouble for them.I think even Asian and Subcontinental cabbies think the boongs are subhumans.. but it really is the whites who'll go out of their way for the boongs and no one else on most occasions.

AN ARREST warrant has been issued for fallen AFL star Liam Jurrah, despite domestic violence charges being dropped against him today.                                       
In the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today, prosecutors withdrew a charge of aggravated assault over an incident allegedly involving Jurrah's partner in January.
However, Magistrate David McLeod heard that a new charge of breaching bail conditions had been laid against Jurrah - who is in custody in the NT on separate assault matters.
Mr McLeod issued a warrant for Jurrah's arrest should he return to South Australia.
Jurrah last week pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving in which he was stopped by police with a blood-alcohol reading of 0.269.
His NT arrest came just six days after he was acquitted, by a Supreme Court jury, of leading a 20-strong invasion of the Little Sisters Town Camp at Alice Springs in March last year.
