TERRITORIANS will be restricted to one cask of wine per person per day following a new agreement among CBD stakeholders. 
 
The Darwin Inner City Packaged Liquor Accord, being announced next week, will see more restrictions made around the sale of alcohol in an effort to reduce alcohol-related crime in and around the CBD.

One of those stipulations, the NT News understands, is that only one cask of wine can be sold to each person per day.

A Department of Business spokeswoman said the accord was a voluntary agreement by licensees and other stakeholders to take actions which aim to improve safety in the Darwin community by preventing and reducing anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related violence.

But The People's Alcohol Action Coalition spokesman Dr John Boffa said controlling what people could purchase generally wouldn't affect alcohol-fulled crime.


"A cask of wine is still a lot of alcohol," he said. "It sounds like they're doing something but they're not doing anything.

"It's not going to work."

A REBELS and a Comanchero clubroom have already been abandoned as South Australia's tough new anti-bikie laws come into effect. 
 
The controversial laws have declared 10 gangs criminal organisations making it illegal for members to meet in public, enter pubs and wear club colours.

Attorney-General John Rau said he anticipated the clubs would mount a legal challenge against the laws.

"I would not be surprised at all if there were a legal challenge because this legislation does represent a significant threat to the behaviour and lifestyle of these people," he said.

Any White men gathered in groups of three or more may be treated as "bikies".

"All of the advice I have received is that challenge would be very unlikely to succeed."

"It's our expectation that we will see a high degree of compliance of the new laws from the outlaw motorcycle gangs and where we don't see that compliance and they flout the laws they'll see the response from the SA Police which will be to take action in accordance with the new opportunities we have made available to us.

"We are visiting the gangs, we are monitoring the prescribes premises and were also acting on information provided by other police in relation to instances where these members of these organisations are congregating and where they are meeting at licensed premises."

The legislation prohibits members from outlawed gangs being together in public in groups of three or more.

It also prohibits the wearing of club colours or jewellery and accessories in licenced premises.

TWO young girls are in custody after a brazen daylight attack on a 60-year-old woman in Alice Springs. 
 
The two girls, aged 13 and 14, allegedly attacked the woman while she was sitting in her car, which was parked in the top carpark of the Yeperenye Shopping Centre about 11am Monday.

Superintendent Helen Braam said the girls allegedly stole the woman's phone, and ripped the keys from the ignition before fleeing.

"While police were en-route, the offenders have returned. They then pushed and slapped the victim — who was still in the car — stole her wallet and then ran away."

Supt Braam said the officers then teamed up with CCTV operators to track the girls, before a short foot chase led to their arrest.


She said both girls remained in custody and would likely be interviewed Monday afternoon.
