A 53-YEAR-OLD woman was assaulted in Leayner Tuesday after she ignored a man who asked for the time.
NT police are calling for witnesses to the alleged assault which took place shortly before 6am.
Casuarina station officer-in-charge, acting senior sergeant Tanya Mace said the woman was walking along the footpath outside the Hibiscus Shopping Centre when the alleged assault took place.
"A man approached her and asked for the time. She continued on her way, but shortly after heard footsteps and was grabbed from behind, around her waist and a hand placed over her mouth," she said.
The offender is described as being of indigenous appearance, aged in his 20s, about 175cm tall with medium length curly hair and a bandage on his left arm.
