Unfortunately the Linux OS versions I installed on older computers were still too slow. It worked, but was not fast enough for the oldest. So I got to experimenting again and decided to install a version of Android ... AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY!
If all you are looking for is a computer to browse the internet, send emails and watch videos, Android PrimeOS will do it. And your old computer will work faster than it did at new - and I'm using a laptop from about 2005. Another benefit over Linux is that you probably already know how to use Android systems on your phones, tablets and TV's, so there's no learning curve. Just get PrimeOS installed, and you'll soon be using your favourite apps on a bigger and better screen with a mouse and keyboard.

Also, I have too many laptops, so I'll be giving away one or two ... depending how many of them actually work. All I need for myself are my two main computers I built myself with Windows 11, a modern Windows 11 laptop and an old Android PrimeOS laptop. The rest are going.
In Australia, any mobile phone or tablet relying on 3G has suddenly stopped working due to new govt regulations. If anybody reading this is wondering whether their old phones or tablets are of any use, they can be repurposed as security cameras. Just look for the software.
Speaking of which, two of my tablets are so old, they aren't even of use as security cameras, so I'll be setting one up just to display pictures. The other I gave to my neighbour; she'll be using it for the same purpose, as she now has her own modern tablet and phone.
