Excerpt: Mr Gawrysiak was walking Morti along Huntingdale Road at about 2.30am when a black Holden Commodore with five young people, who looked to be in their late teens and early 20s, approached.

Mr Gawrysiak's daughter Ewa Gawrysiak told news.com.au those in the car started yelling demands for Morti like "we want the dog" and "give us the dog".

Mr Gawrysiak ran into a nearby convenience store on Waverley Road in Chadstone.

Ewa said her dad was "hiding" with Morti in the store when the two young women and three young men all confronted him.

She said her dad tried to pull Morti back as one of the women patted her saying how "cute" she was, but then the dog was unhooked from her lead as Mr Gawrysiak was [beaten and] pushed away by others in the group.

The family collected Morti from RSPCA in Burwood after a passer-by found her abandoned on Huntingdale Road on Saturday afternoon.

Murdered: Canadian-born Linford Feich, 71, ran the Friendly Grocer Nightcliff Supermarket

Update: An 18-year-old man turned himself in to police, and was out on bail at the time of the alleged incident.

A manhunt is underway for an aboriginal suspect after an elderly supermarket owner was allegedly stabbed to death in Darwin.

The 71-year-old owner of the Nightcliff Friendly Grocer on Progress Drive died in his own store on Wednesday evening after telling a man who was allegedly stealing items to leave, witnesses told NT News.

One witness said she called emergency services just after 5pm after seeing the alleged attack.

"As soon as we entered we heard the voice (of the man), he tried to kick (him out), while (he was) stealing things," she said
"Two staff members directed him to the door and suddenly (he) took out a knife and [allegedly] stabbed the man ... and he collapsed.

She described the alleged knifeman as "skinny", aboriginal, and wearing black clothing.

NT Police said on Wednesday night they believe they have identified the suspect, who fled on a bicycle, and are trying to hunt him down.

He is understood to come from the Daly region, 50km southwest of Darwin.

He had been required to live at a 'Top End remote community,' but was not required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.

'The public have had enough.'

Some pointed out the brazen nature of the alleged attack given it allegedly happened just across the road from Nightcliff Police Station.

Furious Aussies have called for the army to be deployed in the Northern Territory in response to crime, after the alleged fatal stabbing of a Darwin supermarket owner.

Canadian-born Linford Feich, 71, ran the Friendly Grocer Nightcliff Supermarket in the city's west, where he was allegedly attacked on Wednesday evening after he confronted an alleged teenage shoplifter who was out on bail.

The incident has enraged Darwin residents, who claim NT Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro's attempts to crack down on crime have failed and bail laws in the territory remain too relaxed.

Hundreds of locals took to social media to vent their frustration on Thursday, with some calling for the federal government to 'send the army through' or 'bring in the armed forces' in response to spiralling crime in the territory.

'How many more innocent people have to die or live their lives in fear to be in their homes or businesses and not be safe... Bring in the armed forces to clean up,' said one.

A manhunt is underway for two aboriginal men who assaulted and stabbed a young worker while robbing a service station in Alice Springs.

Northern Territory Police they received a report just before 11am on Sunday that a man working at the business in Sadadeen had been stabbed after confronting two males who were trying to steal items.

The staff member, 26, approached the men and asked them to return the items, police said on Sunday afternoon.

CCTV footage then shows the thieves pushing the worker to the ground and standing over him while one of the offenders punching him in the head, according to police.

"While the victim was still on the ground the other offender lunged at him with an edged weapon, stabbing him once to the forearm," police said.


The two men then walked away and are still at large.

Paramedics were called immediately to treat the 26-year-old, who suffered non-life threatening injuries.

"Police believe the 2 individuals pictured may be able to help with their inquiries and are keen to talk to them," police said.

"The public are advised not to approach them if they see them, but call police immediately

Andrew Kevin Gollan, 24, was being pursued by police in relation to an earlier assault when the drama unfolded in front of horrified beachgoers at Adelaide's Christies Beach on January 23 2024.

The confronting footage released by the court on Wednesday showed a male officer being dragged into the ocean during the altercation with Gollan.

Screams were heard as another officer ran into the water while Gollan wrestled with one of their colleagues.

'I didn't do nothing,' Gollan was heard yelling.

He then punched a female officer in the face with his fist before running back to the shore.

Police officer Kyle Hurcombe was then struck hit in the face after firing a Taser at Gollan, which missed.

Gollan then hurled a scooter at him, which bounced off the sand.

Officers were eventually able to restrain Gollan after police back-up arrived.

The dramatic scenes unfolded after Gollan earlier smashed a car window with his scooter outside a nearby hotel.

The court heard Gollan then hit the male 63-year-old driver in the head with the scooter as he got out of the vehicle.

The man suffering a fractured skull, ligament damage to his knees, lacerations and bruising.

Gollan appeared in the District Court last week, after previously pleading guilty to two counts of assaulting a worker and one count each of resisting police officer and in doing so cause harm, aggravated causing harm with intent and damaging a building or motor vehicle, the Advertiser reported.

A man who attacked police during his arrest on a busy beach made a gun gesture to the judge overseeing his sentencing, before going on a expletive-laden rant

Andrew Kevin Gollan, 25, raged at Judge Heath Barklay as he appeared for sentencing submissions via video link at Adelaide's District Court on Tuesday.

The Morphettville man's attorney, Sean Nottle, apologised for his client's unruly behaviour as details of his violent arrest on January 23, 2024 were heard in court.

Gollan was being pursued by police in relation to an earlier assault when he attacked the officers in front of horrified beachgoers at Christies Beach.

Confronting footage released by the court in April showed a male officer being dragged into the ocean during the altercation with Gollan.

Police officer Kyle Hurcombe was hit in the face after firing a Taser at Gollan, which missed, before the suspect hurled a scooter at him.

In court Golan 'formed a gun with his hands' while pointing at the judge as the prosecution began their final sentencing submissions.

Golan swore and cursed as the prosecution continued during the hearing.

'Bulls**t, f**king dog,' Gollan said, reports the Advertiser.

'I'm not listening to this bulls**t bias ... my brother just died ... I'm not listening to this s**t. Can I go back to my f***ing cell?'

Judge Barklay was forced to mute Golan's audio after the accused refused to adhere to the court's orders to remain quiet.

Despite this Golan continued to swear while punching at the camera which was streaming his actions to the court.

He also threw a small object around the room he was in before he asked if the Judge wanted to 'talk s**t about me c*.

Golan pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting a worker and one count each of resisting a police officer and in doing so causing aggravated harm with intent.

Mr Nottle told the court that his client had been diagnosed with diagnosed bipolar personality disorder, PTSD and polysubstance use disorder being a coon prior to the incident.

Mr Nottle presented the court a letter of apology which Golan had written prior to the hearing.

The letter outlined Golan's regret for his actions and insisted that he wanted to become 'the best man he can' going forward.

'There is still some small amount of hope for this young man to be able to make good on what he has set out to ... to make good on the promises and commitments that he has made to himself,' Mr Nottle said

Golan has been held intermittently in solitary confinement over the course of 10 months since his arrest, Mr Nottle told the court.

The court also heard about Golan's 'complex history' of trauma, abuse and dysfunction being a coon which had preceded his extensive criminal history.

Gollan has been remanded in custody and will face sentencing in May.
