What a joke! We have these clowns in Govt who refuse to disclose laws they want to make. They expect us to vote on a Referendum that cost us $$$ to have and just give us this "Flim flam". They want this "give the Abos some love/sympathy for past  treatment" vibe to get this farce over the line?!

Senator says Uluru Statement 'confirmed' as 26 pages by NIAA, after Prime Minister Albo Sleazy blasts claim as 'QAnon' conspiracy

Aboriginal Senator Jacinta Price says the full Uluru Statement, which talks of "reparations", has been "confirmed" as being 26 pages long by the agency that produced the documents.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12383439/Voice-referendum-Victoria-poised-vote-Yes-No-vote-surges-ahead-states.html

A new poll on the referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament has continued the run of bad news for the Yes side, with only one state forecast to back the proposal

The one glimmer of hope in the poll for Guardian Australia, is that the Yes side is leading 47 per cent to 46 in Victoria, with 7 per cent unsure which way they will vote.

For the referendum to succeed it not only must get the majority of the vote nationally but also in at least four of the six states.

Nationally, the No side is leading with 47 per cent, with the Yes side on 43 per cent, while 10 per cent of people have still not made up their mind.

Let it fail! Victoria doesn't have a lot of Abos to contend with! It deserves to fail! What a waste of money! What a fantasy of having Abos run a technologically advanced nation like Australia. Show Albanese for being the clown he is! There is an economical crisis and a housing crisis and he would rather give power to Abos?!

'Handed over': Ten Victorian councils blindsided by sweeping Aboriginal land rights deal

An Aboriginal group would be given "unprecedented" control over 10 Victorian councils under sweeping proposals in a secret deal signed by the Andrews government.

https://www.firstpeoplesrelations.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2023-07/RSA-WJJWJ-People-Redacted.pdf

Excerpt: Ten Victorian councils covering an area half the size of Tasmania have been blindsided by a settlement agreement that includes a list of proposals that would hand Indigenous groups sweeping powers to rename all roads, bridges and public spaces, co-manage waterways and biosecurity, as well as "preferential" access to council procurement contracts and jobs.

"We're not allowed to name roads anymore," said West Wimmera mayor Tim Meyer, commenting on the proposals in the agreement.

"The land council has to tell us what the road names are going to be from now on. [Legendary AFL coach] Alastair Clarkson's a local boy here – there's no chance of ever getting a road named after him now."

Some local mayors fear that, similar to the experience of the shambolic rollout of Western Australia's controversial new cultural heritage laws, the agreement will give Indigenous groups effective "veto" power to halt a wide range of activities without approval.

"The land council has to be consulted on everything and you've got to pay for that consultation," said Cr Meyer. "We don't know [how much it will cost]. They might say it's 20 bucks an hour, they might say it's 1000 bucks an hour. We don't know."

Councils have been requested to install "appropriate signage", fly the Aboriginal flag on council buildings, and attach plaques in public spaces acknowledging the traditional owners.

The agreement also proposes that councils consult or partner with the BGLC on nearly all aspects of local government business including planning applications, water and roads management, fire prevention, health and wellbeing services, local laws, rates and levies.

Another section calls for the development of a "framework for involvement of the BGLC in management of council controlled lands and waters".

Councils are also requested to "commit to preferentially employ WJJWJ people".

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12383395/Jacinta-Price-inquiry-Nations-government-spending.html

Abo welfare, a Boon for some Coons >:D

Three Indigenous senators on opposite sides of the political spectrum are demanding an inquiry into Aboriginal corporations, claiming many are syphoning money away from vulnerable communities and traditional land owners

Shadow Indigenous Australians minister Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, along with South Australian Liberal Senator Kerrynne Liddle, have launched a bid to investigate government funding of First Nations organisations

The proposal was strengthened by the support of Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe, who delivered an impassioned speech slamming the government for 'whitesplaining' to her.

'Don't talk to me, Labor, with your whitesplaining speeches, on what you think is best for us, and what your experience has been,' she said during a heated two-hour debate in the chamber on Wednesday night,' the Greens break-away said.

Ms Thorpe said there must be a thorough investigation into Aboriginal Land Councils and similar organisations, noting she's witnessed everyone but the traditional owners benefit from deals struck within high levels of the bodies.

'People in the Latrobe Valley are so poor that we have young people stealing food from our old people, and we have a deadly native title corporation up the road raking in millions,' she noted.

'The traditional owners on the ground get nothing. This is ongoing, and will continue to be ongoing unless we hold these corporations to account.'

Ms Thorpe supported the motion put forward by Senators Nampijinpa Price and Liddle with minor amendments.

The proposal calls for an inquiry into 'the scope of services funded by the Australian government... for Aboriginal organisations'.

The inquiry would be expected to deliver findings in a set of key areas by June 30, 2024.

Shortly after the bombshell Senate sitting, a government source slammed the motion and told Daily Mali Australia it's nothing but a 'Trojan horse to get anti-voice rhetoric in Parliament'.

'Land Councils are already subject to high levels of scrutiny and accountability. They are elected bodies accountable to members.'

The 2023 Labor Budget, delivered in May, committed $1.9billion to initiatives to improve the lives of First Nations people - including $364.6 million to hold the referendum on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

This builds on the $1.2billion allocated in the October 2022 mini-Budget.

Ms Liddle presented the motion on Wednesday, demanding that more 'transparency, accountability and outcomes' are badly needed.

'These three words should by the way taxpayer dollars are spent... for too long we have turned a blind eye to a lack of reporting, a lack of accountability and, without a shadow of a doubt, a lack of outcomes,' she said.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12389025/Tony-Abbott-Ex-Prime-Minister-candidly-reveals-hes-sick-Welcome-Country-ceremonies-calls-Aboriginal-flag-divisive.html

Tony Abbott has hit out at constant Welcome to Country ceremonies and labelled the Aboriginal flag 'divisive' while campaigning against the Voice

The former prime minister made the remarks on Monday at a Melbourne forum promoting the No vote in the upcoming Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum.

Mr Abbott, who was appointed as a special envoy on Indigenous Affairs by then Liberal Prime Minister Scott Morrison in 2018, told the audience that he was 'getting a little bit sick of Welcome to Countrys'.

The former PM was forced to pause as the audience, who paid $15 a ticket to attend, burst out in appreciative laughter and applause

After the noise subsided, Mr Abbott explained the reason he was getting tired of the ceremony was that Australia 'belongs to all of us not just to some of us'.

'And I'm getting a little bit tired of seeing the flag of some of us flown equally with the flag of all of us,' Mr Abbott went on to say.

'And I just think that the longer this goes on, the more divisive and the more difficult and the more dangerous that it's getting now.'

He was scathing of the way Australia's history was portrayed by those arguing for the Voice.

'What the authors of this Voice are putting to us is that we are essentially a racist country, we are essentially a country that should be ashamed of ourselves.' Mr Abbott said.

'We are essentially a country that needs to atone for 240 years of exploitation and oppression and I am bloody well voting no to all that crap.'

Mr Abbott argued that the problems of Indigenous Australians, especially in more remote areas, were not going to be solved by having a Voice.

'The problem in these places is that the kids don't go to school,' he said

Appearing later in the week on Sky News, Mr Abbott said: 'Too many Australians have been led to believe there is something illegitimate about the country that we are.'

Mr Abbott told host Peta Credlin, who was his chief of staff when he was Prime Minister from 2013 to 2015, he accepted 'not everything about our country is perfect' and it had the 'odd blemish' with 'serious mistakes being made in the past

'Nevertheless the country that we are is something that all or us can on balance be proud of,' he said.

'I want us to go forward as one united people not as a divided country where depending on the length of time your ancestors have been here you get more or less say over how government works.'

Monday night's forum was hosted by Victorian Liberal MPs Kim Wells and Nick McGowan at Rowville's Polish Club in the south east Melbourne.

Leading No campaigner Warren Mundine was also one of the speakers.

Mr Mundine claimed that because of his advocacy against the Voice his role as director of conservative think tank the Centre for Independent Studies (CIS) was under threat.

'You know I got a threat today about my position in the CIS by a very senior wealthy businessman,' Mr Mundine said
'I'll name him in a few days actually but he has threatened that the CIS has to get rid of me.

A Welcome to Country can only be delivered by Traditional Owners or Custodians of the land on which the event takes place.

It is usually performed by a local Aboriginal Elder to acknowledge and give consent to events taking place on their traditional lands.

It is also a sign of respect and protocol, but organising a Welcome to Country can take weeks, involving several different Indigenous groups.

If a Traditional Owner is not available to do a Welcome to Country, an Acknowledgement of Country can be delivered instead.

An Acknowledgement of Country is a way to show awareness and respect for Traditional Custodians of the land where a meeting or event is taking place.

Its purpose is to recognise the continuing connection of Aboriginal people to Country, and can be delivered by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

There are three types of Acknowledgement of Country:

Generic — this should be used if you don't know the name of the people on whose land you are gathered, or if there are disputes about the land (multiple Aboriginal peoples identify as Traditional Custodians for that area). The words are:

'I begin today by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we today, and pay my respects to their Elders past and present. I extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today.'

Specific — this should be used where there are no disputes and you know the name of the people on whose land you are gathered. The words are:

'I begin today by acknowledging the people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which we today, and pay my respects to their Elders past and present. I extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today.'

General (to be used Australia wide or in a webinar, on a website, or in printed material) - The words are:

'In the spirit of reconciliation the [organisation] acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today

&:(  :-\ I sure don't think that it's appropriate to welcome myself to my own country! Like, ownership is a concept Whites taught them! All they really owned were just crude stone tools and weapons they crafted from a stick. They believed the land owned them.

The best thing that happened was this land became a British colony. Others would have taken it and treated them less favourably and the land would be stripped and gutted as well as less developed. It is silly for them to believe nobody else since 1788 would have challenged those stone age primitives for this land full of resources!

Big fish eats little fish! Not fair to hippies but natures way.
