FUGITIVE Ronald Kelly, who had been on the run since early Saturday morning after fleeing the Darwin Correctional Centre, has been caught.

It is understood Kelly was found by police at a residence in Woodroffe.

The fugitive had been on the run for almost a week.

He was the final escapee to be caught after three prisoners fled the facility last week
Kelly, 26, had previously escaped custody twice and was found hiding in a roof cavity in Palmerston before police tasered and arrested him in 2015

SIX youths went on a 200km joy ride from Alice Springs to Ti Tree in two stolen cars.

During the joy ride, the youths allegedly almost ran over a number of staff at the Aileron Roadhouse who tried to stop the group from taking another vehicle.

The alleged offenders ranged in age from 11 to 16.

The incident started on Thursday at 12.45am when a Mitsubishi Outlander was taken from a home at Larapinta.

NT Police Duty Superintendent Rob Burgoyne said the youths were then spotted at Aileron Roadhouse sometime later.

They broke into the venue and stole keys to a Toyota HiAce.

"Staff had tried to stop the car and had to take evasive action to avoid beingPolice found the Outlander dumped at a sports oval and later found the second vehicle at the Six Mile community just south of Ti Tree.



The youths were found walking along the Stuart Highway.

A 14, 16 and 17-year-old will front Alice Springs Court today.


A 12-year-old will face court on November 20.

The other two boys an 11-year-old and 14-year-old have been given written warnings.

Duty Supt Burgoyne said the drivers, aged 16 and 17, would be charged with dangerous driving.

Look at their ages and where they left the car. Typical Boong behaviour! Where's the parents? Getting drunk you can bet.

A MINI cab driver has been attacked by a man with a fishing knife, leaving him with injuries to his eye.

The taxi driver, 29, was in Moulden driving down Davoren Cct at 1.30am when a man allegedly approached him with a fishing knife demanding money.

The driver got out of the car and disarmed the man of the knife.

Duty Superintendent Rob Burgoyne said the man then hit the driver across the head, smashing his glasses, which then cut his eye.

He said the man received a cut to his right eye and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Duty Supt Burgoyne said police initially thought the man had been stabbed in the eye.

The alleged offender, described as an Aboriginal man wearing white pants and no shirt, was last seen running into McGuire Cct.

A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with one count of sexual assault without consent, with the alleged incident occurring at the Katherine Hot Springs last weekend.

Katherine detectives made the arrest on Wednesday. NT Police released a statement late Thursday night.

The Katherine Times reported police were looking for two men of indigenous appearance, one aged in his teens and the other in his 20s in relation to the incident.

It also reported the men were believed to be in the vicinity of the Katherine Shopping Centre car park at 3am on Saturday, prior to the alleged assault
The man is in custody and is scheduled to appear in Katherine Local Court today.
