A Somalian asylum seeker rapefugee has been charged with raping two disabled men in a care home and murdering one of their wives in Germany.

The 18-year-old is said to have broken into the sheltered accommodation in Neuenhaus in the county of Betheim late last year and sneaked into the room of a paralysed 59-year-old man to rape him.

Police say the migrant then made his way into an adjoining room and raped another man before being confronted by the victim's 87-year-old wife, who he is accused of killing.

It is understood the woman was living in the same room as her husband at the Haus am Bürgerpark care home.

The horrific incident is said to have happened in the early hours of October 22 last year.

As he was sexually abusing the second victim, the Somalian is said to have been disturbed by the wife and killed her using 'great force' to avoid being caught for his previous crimes, according to German police.

The accused is currently being held in custody in a psychiatric hospital and his trial will be heard before the Landgericht Osnabrück, which is the large youth court.

German police have raised the terror threat level after warnings of more attacks on high-profile events, including football games and concerts, following last week's bombing in Dortmund.

Police said military-grade explosives were used to target the bus of the city's football team. They believe that these were planted by members of the far right rather than by Islamists.

The pipe bombs, filled with shrapnel, exploded near Dortmund's vehicle, injuring the Spanish defender Marc Bartra and a police officer.

An official document leaked to Die Welt newspaper yesterday (Saturday) suggested the bombers wanted to incite a backlash against Muslims. Three letters found nearby, which claimed the bombing on behalf of Islamists, were fabricated, said the investigators.

"The explosive in the pipe bombs, which were filled with metal shrapnel, seems to derive from the inventory of the army. But we are still investigating that," a police source told the newspaper.

The military-grade detonators could have been wired only by someone with "professional skills", the official added.

Joachim Herrmann, Bavaria's interior minister, said the "truly worrying" aspect of the Dortmund attack was the "technically perfect construction of the explosive devices". He warned that similar events could take place on "any other street in Germany".

Neo-Nazi groups have planted explosives in the past, notably in 2004 in Cologne, when Turkish immigrants were targeted.

The alert circulated to regional police offices said more "publicity-seeking" attacks were likely.

"It is clear that this was not only about football but about achieving maximum publicity . . . Therefore there are similar risks - for instance, for pop concerts," said Herrmann.

More than 100 police officers and detectives have been assigned to the Dortmund investigation.

German event organisers have been told to hire more security staff following last Tuesday's attack.

The federal criminal police office, Germany's equivalent of Scotland Yard, raised the national threat warning to the second-highest level on Friday.

The move was prompted by the belief that suspects are still at large, have advanced bomb-making skills and are willing to hit high-profile targets for maximum publicity.

Two suspected Islamists were arrested in Dortmund after the attack, one of whom is still in custody. He is an Iraqi asylum seeker who is thought to have led an Isis death squad but he has not been linked to the bus attack.

Other lines of inquiry include the possibility that the attack was planned by "foreign intelligence" services, far-left groups or a deranged individual.

"One of the most likely scenarios is that the attack had a far-right background," a police spokesman said.
