Germany: Gas Attack on Train Bound for Hamburg Airport

Extract: SEVERAL people were injured after a tear gas attack on a packed train in Hamburg.
Two young children, aged three and six, were treated for burning eyes and breathing problems.

Four adults were also treated for similar injuries following the incident at an underground stop in the Sternschanze area of the city.

Two "youths" reportedly fled the scene after spraying the toxic substance on a carriage carrying about 50 people.

Extract: Interior Minister Bruno Le Roux said the attacker, who he named as Ziyed Ben Belgacem, was "known to the police and intelligence services".

He said the suspect was also linked to an attack on police just north of Paris earlier the same day in which an officer was slightly wounded.

At the airport, the 39-year-old man knocked the soldier to the ground and grabbed at her rifle, a senior military source said.

"Put your weapons down. I'm here to die for Allah. In any case people are going to die," the man told three patrolling soldiers, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said, giving an account of the attack.

Two other soldiers with her then opened fire, killing him, the source said.

No-one else was injured.

A cousin of the attacker was also detained, as well as his father and brother.

Masood, who killed four people before he was shot dead by police outside Parliament told hotel staff London "isn't like it used to be" just hours before he went on a rampage.

The new details have emerged as another victim who was injured during the attack passed away in hospital, bringing the death toll to five.

Police said in a statement that life support was withdrawn from the 75-year-old man and his family had been notified. Details surrounding how he died are not yet know, nor his name or nationality.

Father-of-three Khalid Masood, 52, hired a hotel room in the English seaside town of Brighton before carrying out the attack, according to The Sun.

Shocked hotel employees told the news agency Masood had said he was "off to London today" immediately before the carnage.

He spent his last night alive at the hotel before he was shot by police officers outside Westminster's gates on Thursday.

The Sun reported Masood put the finishing touches to his deadly plot in room 228 at the £59-a-night (AU$96) Preston Park Hotel.

He shovelled down his last meal of a takeaway kebab on Tuesday night before checking out of his room on Wednesday morning.

He then drove to London where he ploughed into pedestrians, killing four, and stabbed hero cop PC Keith Palmer to death.
