A TEENAGER was allegedly assaulted in two different incidents in Katherine just hours apart on Christmas Eve.

Senior Sergeant Mark Malogorski said the 18-year-old woman was walking along O'Shea Tce when she was allegedly assaulted just after midnight on Saturday. Her shoes and wallet were stolen in the attack.

Just a few hours later, the same woman was allegedly sexually assaulted.

]"Later that morning, between 1am and 3am, the woman was walking in the vicinity of Katherine High School when she was approached by two unknown male offenders, pushed to the ground, and sexually assaulted," Sen Sgt Malogorski said.

One of the men  BOONGS is described at 180cm tall with an athletic build wearing black jeans or pants, a black jumper with a pocket on the front, black slip on shoes and a blue or green cap with a lighter blue wave logo on the front.

The second man had short blonde or orange hair and was wearing black pants and black shoes.

Both are of indigenous appearance.

FIVE youths are on the run from authorities after allegedly using a stolen car to ram-raid two businesses and leading police on several pursuits.

A property in Canopus Crt Woodroffe was broken into over night with a 1995 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan stolen
Territory Duty Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said the car was allegedly used in a ram raid at the Hidden Valley Tavern. Several bottles of spirits were stolen.
Hidden Valley Tavern owner Ron Townsend said the break-in had caused a minimum of $12,000 in damage.
"It was $12,000 in equipment plus the door. They were in a bit of a mess, the glass was shattered on both of them," he said.
The crime spree then continued in Palmerston, Supt Muldoon said

Then (they) attempted to do a ram raid at the United service station on Forrest Parade in Rosebery, but they were unsuccessful in gaining entry," he said.
Police engaged in a couple of pursuits with the vehicle over night, on each occasion police deemed it too dangerous to continue and cancelled the pursuit."
It is then alleged the car was involved in a fuel drive-off in Bakewell.

"Witnesses at the scene said there were five indigenous youths in the vehicle."

A GROUP of men * thieving boongs!*are accused of being behind a ram raid to an Alice Springs business this week.Alice Springs police say a Ford Ranger was stolen from a property on Thursday and was used in the ram raid at 3am on Friday.
]Detective Superintendent Michael White said the offence was captured on CCTV.
The images show the Ranger, with a yellow cover over its tray, and four men.

A DARWIN supermarket was ram raided with what police believe to be a stolen car last night.Witnesses from high rise unit buildings opposite the IGA on Smith St saw a blue Toyota Camry with three youths try to smash through the shop's roller door at 12.45am.
]Territory Duty Superintendent Rob Burgoyne said the youths couldn't break through but caused significant damage to the shop.

"The vehicle was recovered this morning at 4.30am in The Gardens. It was then confirmed it was a stolen motor vehicle from Moulden," he said.
The same group appear to have stolen a white Nissan 370 Z coupe, registration number NISSAN, from Gardens Hill Crescent."
He said the car was seen in Palmerston and Bagot Rd.
Supt Burgoyne said the ram raid may be linked to similar crimes from last week.
The Camry has been seized for forensic testing.
He said the owners of the Camry were away when it was stolen.

THE Territory's youth justice system is not working for the community and needs serious reform, acting Chief Minister Nicole Manison admitted Thursday.

The comments came after an NT News investigation revealed the number of youth in detention in Don Dale dropped significantly since the prison abuses scandal broke, while at the same time property crimes in Darwin have skyrocketed.

"What's so frustrating is that we're not getting the results we want to see," Ms Manison said.

"It's clear that the system we have in place at the moment is not working the way we need it to."

Government statistics show property offences, including residential and commercial unlawful entries, went up by 27 per cent in Darwin in the second half of 2016.

Police said that 90 per cent of property crimes were committed by repeat offenders, and that the overwhelming majority were young.

The lack of diversionary options for judges sentencing teen criminals is one serious problem that has led to the high recidivism rate, legal experts agree.

Charles Darwin University law lecturer Ken Parish said the options for diversionary sentencing in the NT were "almost non-existent compared with other states".

"Most offenders don't need to be in detention; detention potentially increases recidivism for less serious offenders, but the lack of diversionary options may give the sentencing judge little alternative," he said.

Jared Sharp, a lawyer and general manager of Jesuit Social Services NT, said the best way to stop teen crims from reoffending is making them see the impact of their crimes.

"One of the big things we're missing ... is the victims in the equation," he said.

NT Police are calling for the public assistance to find 17-year-old Liam Whitehurst who is wanted for questioning over the theft of a Subaru WRX from Bakewell on Friday night and for fleeing the scene of a crash on Victoria Drive in Gray yesterday.

He is also a person of interest in other property crimes. Police hold concerns for the safety of the community and of Whitehurst.
