THE number of women who have reported being sexually harassed or assaulted at a German music festival last weekend has risen to 26, police said on Tuesday.

The mostly young women, who between them filed 14 criminal complaints, said they were encircled and groped by groups of men in ways that recalled mob attacks at chaotic New Year's festivities in Cologne.

"The women have reported that the (perpetrators) appeared to be men from the South Asia region," police said in a statement after an initial 18 women had reported assaults.

Police said three Pakistani men aged 28 to 31, at least two of them asylum seekers, were arrested at the four-day open air event, called the Schlossgrabenfest music festival, in the western city of Darmstadt.

An eye-opening report reveals just how dangerous Europe has really become with terror attacks on the rise and arrests of suspects doubling in the space of just two years.
Europol's EU Terrorism Situation and Trend Report 2016 reveals the biggest threat Europe faces are those attacks carried out on home soil by foreign fighters and lone wolves.
According to the report, 1077 people were arrested in the EU for terrorism-related offences last year alone, almost half of which took place in France (424).
The 2015 arrests double those made in 2013, when only 535 were taken into custody.

Detectives investigating the attack on Sunday July 3 have yet to make any arrests and are appealing for witnesses.

The victim, who was raped near a bench and a gazebo in the park, has been taken to a haven and is now being supported by specialist officers.

The victim was approached by a group of men in their 20s in Church House Gardens – just behind the Churchill Theatre – according to reports.
