A TEENAGE boy was held by a passenger inside a car and dragged along the road before being run over in a vicious robbery - all for his iPhone. 
 
Serious Crime Squad Detectives are investigating the incident, which occurred on Easter Monday on Jabiru St, Wulagi about 3pm.

Detective Senior Constable Toby Wilson said the 16-year-old was held by the passenger inside the car and dragged along the road as the driver sped off.

"The driver then ran over the victim's legs before continuing on to Lee Point Rd," he said.

The boy was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

So what white person would be so desperate for a second hand I-phone? Then run them over?

ALICE Springs Police have continued with increased patrols at night because of the continued high numbers of anti-social behaviour and property damage taking place. 
 
There were eight reports of property damage in the CBD area ranging from broken windows to damaged vehicles from incidents on Monday night.

Police engaged with and drove 34 youths home and took 42 people into protective custody.

Despite the efforts of Police, large numbers of youth remained in the CBD area into the early hours of the morning. Police attended a report of property damage at a Gap Road business about 1.30am. When three officers arrived on foot, they identified a large group of youth on South Terrace near Tuncks Causeway.

"Members conducting a foot patrol approached a large group of youths on South Terrace who were causing a general disturbance," Superintendent Travis Wurst said.

"Several people in the group began throwing large rocks at the Police Officers. The Officers were able to push the group back towards the Todd River while additional units attended. More members of the group started throwing large rocks at the Officers."

When additional units arrived, the group dispersed into the river area and into the hills near Olive Pink Botanical Gardens. A number of small fires were set to nearby scrub by the group; NTFRS were called to attend the fires.

During the event, passing motorists were also pelted with rocks.

"None of the group have been positively identified and Police are asking anyone with information to contact them," Superintendent Wurst said.

"The main protagonist of the incident is described as a male aged in his late teens/early 20s, of Aboriginal appearance. He was of medium build and wearing a pink/red coloured T-shirt.

"The group numbered more than 50, with youths in varying age brackets."

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Inquiries are continuing to identify and find offenders.

A man Bloody boongwho murdered a Perth mother and daughter by bludgeoning them with a hammer and repeatedly stabbing them with scissors will spend at least 32 years behind bars.Lesley Jonathon Cameron was jailed for life on Tuesday for the December 2013 murder of Maureen Anne Horstman, 67, and her 26-year-old daughter Tamara Alexandra Horstman in their Warwick home.


The West Australian Supreme Court heard Cameron, who was 19 at the time, also raped Tamara but it was not known if she was alive or dead.A used condom with DNA evidence was found after the incident.Prosecutor James MacTaggart said Cameron's behaviour was 'sadistic' and he went on a 'killing spree'.'It's violence for violence's sake,' he said.


Mr MacTaggart said while it may have started out as a burglary, Cameron was aroused and then 'sexually violated' Tamara.Cameron's lawyer Dominic Brunello said it was an unplanned and chaotic attack and Cameron panicked.Mr Brunello said his client had a troubled childhood and was 'drug-addled' at the time but was now sorry.

'He makes no excuses for his conduct,' Mr Brunello said.The court heard Cameron described himself at the time as a 'walking time bomb'.Justice Eric Heenan noted Cameron had a criminal record that was 'virtually without interruption' since he was 10 years old.

In a victim impact statement, Tamara's twin brother Nicholas Horstman, who discovered the bodies, said his sister was a dedicated student, loyal friend and widely loved.He and his father accepted Tamara's university graduation certificate the day after her funeral.

Tamara's father said he suffered many sleepless nights and was 'internally wrecked'.Justice Heenan said the women were going about their lives peacefully at home and the crime showed the vulnerability of the community.

'This is one of the worst types of murders one can imagine,' he said.Justice Heenan noted there was a possibility Cameron would remain a threat if he did not address his mental health and substance abuse issues.

A NEW taskforce involving police and seven government agencies has been established to tackle the growing problem of youth crime*Coon crime in the Territory. 
 
With youth offenders now responsible for two-thirds of all property crime, Task Force Neo has been unveiled.

Deputy Commissioner Mark Payne said the new taskforce would provide a "more joined-up approach" that "transcends individual organisations".

He said Taskforce Neo would use "appropriate legislation, police and community engagement services" for youth across the Territory.

"Taskforce Neo will focus on family dysfunction ... will use evidence-based approach, will identify problem communities, problem areas and will certainly identify problem families," he said.

Neo will be coordinated by a committee led by Assistant Commissioner Jamie Chalker.

Mr Payne said in addition to the level of youth involvement in property crime, young offenders were also over-represented in other crimes across the Territory.



He said family dysfunction was the root cause of a "great deal" of youth crime.

"Those things are affected by alcohol and other drug abuse, they're affected by a breakdown of the family unity," he said.

The taskforce would also deal directly with repeat offenders.

"In many instances we deal with the same youth offenders who are involved in repeat offending – we call them recidivous offenders," Mr Payne said. "Many of our strategies and our activities ... are aimed at dealing with recidivous offenders."

He blamed an influx of people into Alice Springs for community events including the Lightning Cup for the spate of youth crimes, particularly rock-throwing in the past two weeks.

Mr Payne said one of the important aspects of Neo would be working with government departments to share information and "resolve those issues surrounding visitors and things that are causational to crime involving children".

This is what happens when you have a Government that gives out a Baby bonus for new born kids and doesn't discriminate on race! A GENIUS left their number plate behind after driving their ute through the front doors of a police station on Friday night.
 
The dark blue Ford Falcon Utility was driven through the front doors of the Harts Range police station, 120km northeast of Alice Springs, at about 10pm.

Police are searching for a 42-year-old man who was reportedly agitated and driving in a reckless manner earlier in the night.

Territory Duty Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said Night Patrol officers reported the man had allegedly thrown a wheel spanner at their vehicle before driving off 'at speed' towards the police station.

"The station, which was vacant at the time, has sustained damage to the front glass doors and rear roller doors," Supt Muldoon said.

The alleged offender then drove off in the direction of the Plenty Highway.

"Police do not think he would have travelled far as damage left behind suggests he would have no working headlights, no front number plate or a front bumper bar," Supt Muldoon said.

The number plate S145 AVI is registered in South Australia.

I very much doubt a white man was responsible in these parts for such a hot headed offence.

THE streets of Alice Springs – a town that was once dubbed the stabbing capital of the world – can be quite a daunting place at the best of times. During the day, things appear calm. But at night, things start to unravel. 
 
It's not unusual to hear the sound of screams and sirens piercing the air. It is commonplace to see mobs of children wandering the CBD unsupervised, and at times, causing havoc. Most like to paint these latchkey kids as the town's antagonists. It's easy to do.

But they aren't one-dimensional villains prowling the street looking for trouble.

There is no question that there are serious youth problems that need to be addressed in the Territory. No one is debating that. But as anybody who has been here for more than a few years can tell you, these are not new issues.

An article from the NT News in April 1995 reported that a meeting of Aboriginal leaders in Alice Springs revealed kids were turning to crime and substance abuse.

So this didn't just pop up.

It means there has been at least 20 years of government policies that have failed to address and fix these issues. Every year there's new programs, taskforces, and political agendas with little to no effect.

Labor like to attack the CLP for cutting funding to youth initiatives despite the "Summer of Crime" of 2011 that occurred under their generous payouts.

Then-assistant Commissioner Mark Payne assured the people of Alice Springs they would not have to suffer another summer of crime. He said there would be 32 dedicated officers – or one might say, a taskforce – to carry out the operation.

Four years later and youths are now responsible for two-thirds of all property crime across the NT.

This week, in reaction to those figures from the "Summer of Crime" of 2015, the now-Deputy Commissioner Payne announced a new taskforce combining police and seven government agencies to tackle youth crime. Deja vu, much?



On Monday night, a group of more than 50 youths threw rocks at police officers and passing vehicles.

There were no injuries, but in a typical knee-jerk reaction, the Northern Territory Government announced children who continued to throw rocks would be taken into their care.

North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) hit back, claiming Alice Springs youth workers had reported that a majority of the kids that had been apprehended for rock-throwing were already in the Territory's care.

But of course, the Department of Children and Families quickly denied their claim.

It is not the first time the CLP has threatened to remove children from their parents since coming into power. In 2013, Chief Minister Adam Giles said accusations of creating a new Stolen Generation would not stop him removing neglected children from parents and placing them in care.

At that time there were already 618 Aboriginal children in the Territory's care.

By June 2014, 85 per cent of all the children in care were Aboriginal. For reference, that's 787 indigenous children and 130 non-indigenous children.

The majority of these were in foster homes as the Department of Children and Families struggle to place kids into kinship homes due to stringent screening processes.



Some say it's a good thing these kids have been "rescued" and put into safe homes. But if we have learnt anything from the past, it's that it's probably not true.

Earlier this year, a girl barely in her teens fell pregnant to an older man while in care.

Another teenage girl in care was allowed to regularly leave and was eventually raped.

We only have to look at the tragic stories that came out about the old Retta Dixon Home at the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse to see being put in care is not always a safe haven.

Instead of putting the problems in the "too hard basket" and saying we better start removing children from families, can we start to look at the root of the problem and ask why?(* the government treats them as our equal and gives their folks a baby bonus to breed and then has no interest in caring for them*)

Why are the kids taking to the streets at night? Where are their caring parents and families? We need to start acknowledging the fact that young Aboriginal people outnumber their elders. In 2011, more than a third of indigenous people in the NT were under 15. Only 4 per cent were over 65.

The fundamental blocks of Aboriginal culture is learning from elders so what happens when they're no longer there? It's just not as simple as pointing our fingers at parents.* well how about doing something to cull them, can't polish a turd*)

We all seem more preoccupied with what trouble the kids are going to cause instead of what might happen to them. It's just not safe for them out there. Like in 2011, when it was revealed young girls wandering the streets of Alice were being used as child prostitutes. Or the boy who recently died after inhaling deodorant.(* so it is white's fault?*)

These kids deserve as much of a chance as the rest of us.(* they get given more chances than anybody! :- easy access to apprenticeships, better study grants, so is it our fault or theirs?*)

Instead of demonising and threatening to remove troubled Aboriginal children from their families, how about we actually help them for once.

And unfortunately for you, that doesn't mean taking them away, sticking them in a home and pretending everything is all right. Because that hasn't worked over the past 200 years and it won't work now.(* No! how about giving them the snip?! How about setting up a fertiliser factory in Alice?*)
