A CONVICTED criminal has bragged on Facebook about his former fugitive status and threatened to return to Darwin to "get what I'm owed" – after he claimed to have escaped being jailed in Vietnam. 
 
Tony Chau, 28, was on the NT's Most Wanted list in May.

He was arrested days after the NT News ran a Crime Stoppers article – which he later made his cover photo.

Chau flew to Vietnam in June, after he was sentenced to a week in prison for unlawfully possessing property.

He was also fined for having an unsecured rifle and ammunition without a licence.

But Chau has apparently decided it's time to return to Australia after a close shave with the Vietnamese judiciary.

He posted on Facebook on Friday last week: "NT's former Most Wanted No.1 fugitive Tony Chau is relocating to my home town.

Chau wrote that he planned to go to Melbourne, "and darwin ill be seeing yous (sic) soon to get what I'm owed".

"Didn't spend all this time for nothing," was posted on his page.

"Pay up or get put down."

Chau posted that he would find out if he would spend "two years behind bars in a Vietnam jail" six days earlier.

He was reportedly "locked up in a house and (not allowed to) go outside" before he walked free from unknown charges.

En route to Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday, he said: "Time to head home. Had enuff (sic) of taking shit from people ... f*** with me or my crew (and) I'll take your life."

A victim of a series of sickening rapes which caused national outrage in Australia says she is fearful about the imminent release of yet another member of the gang which terrorised girls just before the Sydney Olympics. The State Parole Board of NSW has announced it will release 'H', an unidentifed member of the notorious Skaf rape gang whose degrading and racist sex crimes still shock the nation almost 14 years on. The victim was a 16-year-old when she was raped by the gang leader, Bilal Skaf, in front of 12 men in a public park and had a gun held to her head by a second man who also raped her, before kicking her in the stomach.

FOUR Albanian men have been refused bail over a sophisticated attempt to steal money from an ATM at a rural Darwin bank. 
 
Marcel Boka, 31, Gjergj Nika, 41, Simon Sheu, 37 and Aniello Vinciguirra, 33, were charged with attempt unlawful entry, conspiracy to steal, unlawfully possess property and possess house breaking implements.

Defence lawyer Peter Maley said: "These men have no criminal history — I don't know why prosecutors are so vigorously opposing bail."

The men are wanted for stealing cash from about 65 ATMs in NSW, Victoria and SA.

Prosecutor Sally Ozolins said charges were being laid in NSW on Wednesday morning.

She said the men had been casing the Bendigo Bank, at Coolalinga. The bank's power had been cut and the back door was damaged.

Magistrate Greg Smith said they were wearing clothes that would have been "uncomfortable in the current climate" when they were arrested.

He refused bail on the grounds the foursome was likely to flee the NT or the country, despite Mr Maley's offer that each client could post a $10,000 cash surety.

PROSECUTORS have dropped charges against four Albanian men accused of a plotting a covert hi-tech operation to steal money from a rural Darwin ATM. 
 
Marcel Boka, Gjergj Nika, Simon Sheu and Aniello Vinciguirra were refused bail after they were arrested on December 8.

Prosecutor Sally Ozolins applied to withdraw the foursome's identical charges of conspiring to commit a crime, attempt to commit a crime, possess housebreaking implement and unlawfully possess property in Darwin Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

They appeared by video link dressed in orange prison kit.

Magistrate Greg Smith struck out the charges.

Defence lawyer Peter Maley told his clients: "You're free boys."

The men are reportedly wanted for allegedly stealing money from about 65 ATMs interstate.

The NT News understands NSW police will seek an extradition order.

A DARWIN GP who pursued a patient suffering mental health issues on a dating website has been allowed to keep practising despite facing an ongoing investigation over claims of sexual misconduct. 
 
The Northern Territory of Australia Health Professional Review Tribunal overturned a decision made by the Medical Board in November to immediately suspend the registration of Dr Wijeneka Liyanage pending investigation.

The Sri Lankan-born 42-year-old doctor, who commonly goes by the first name of Aruna, saw a female patient on September 23 because she was "stressed over family issues".

He counselled her and provided a medical certificate for two days.

Five days after the consult the doctor saw the patient on an online dating site and sent a message saying "Good to see you. It's a small world. I am doctor who gave u med cert last week I suppose. How are you?"

After connecting on the website the couple engaged in consensual sex "on a number of occasions".



On October 17 the married doctor said he did not want to continue the relationship with the patient.

It was after this the patient went to other doctors, who notified AHPRA and the police regarding a complaint of sexual assault and boundary violation — the alleged sexual assault is claimed to have happened one week to 10 days before the report was first made.

However, the AHPRA tribunal noted police were not pursuing the sexual assault claim.

The Medical Board found Dr Liyanage tried to "manipulate" the patient, asking her to withdraw the complaint by saying "if something happened" he would commit suicide.

It said in its decision to suspend the doctor that "on the basis of the evidence before it, the Board reasonably believes that you pose a serious risk to persons and it is necessary to take immediate action to protect public health or safety".

"You used your professional position of trust to seek out and engage in a sexual relationship with a vulnerable patient," the decision said.

On December 8 the AHPRA tribunal found "there is not sufficient evidence to reasonably believe that immediate action should be taken against the applicant (Dr Liyanage)".

"The evidence before the tribunal is one course of conduct in relation to one patient. There is no evidence to suggest it might be repeated," it said.

"The investigation of the applicant and the likelihood of action against him are likely to fulfil the requirements for deterrence to others and the maintenance of confidence in the profession."

AFTER six months waiting for answers, the family of a young Sydney man whose life was turned upside down by the drug ice is a step closer to knowing who killed the 20-year-old. 
 
Dane McNeill had been a star ice hockey player in his teenage years, with dreams of playing in the NHL.

But in the months before his death last July, the 20-year-old fell in with the wrong crowd.
A month later, his badly burned body was found dumped in a leafy reserve at Picnic Point, in Sydney's southwest.
This morning, a large contingent of police, assisted by riot squad officers and homicide detectives, arrested a 24-year-old man at a home in Bankstown.

Two hours later they arrested a 24-year-old pregant woman, who has a two-year-old child, at Liverpool.

The man this afternoon was charged with Mr McNeill's murder while the woman is being questioned. She is expected to be charged in relation to the killing this afternoon.

A third person, the woman's partner, is also likely to be charged with murder. He is currently in jail on unrelated charges, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The arrests come after a six-month investigation by Strike Force Halfrey.

Police will allege Mr McNeill was assaulted at an address in Heckenberg on July 19, and kept captive overnight.

He was then taken to an address in Cartwright where he died after allegedly being assaulted and stabbed.

It is alleged Mr McNeill's body was taken to Picnic Point and set alight in the early hours of July 21.

It is understood his body was found in a suitcase.
