FED up with rampant crime and turnstile justice for young offenders, Darwin and Palmerston residents have formed night-time street patrols and online "vigilante" groups. 
 
The page "Darwin and Palmerston Vigilante Justice" has attracted almost 100 members in less two days. It was created on Christmas Eve after a spree of car thefts the previous night.

The most shocking account came from former Darwin alderman and Larrakia elder Dorothy Fox, whose uninsured disability-access van was stolen and trashed.

Ms Fox cares for a severely-disabled nine-year-old girl who requires frequent trips to hospital.

"I don't know what I'm going to do without it," Ms Fox said. She summed up the frustration created by nightly break-ins and car theft in the Palmerston area.



"People out here are very angry," she said. "They're getting angrier and angrier.

"(Residents) do patrols every night and they just weren't in my area when it happened. The police can't be everywhere.

"Why aren't these kids locked up? Where are their parents?"

Ms Fox said her grandson was punched after he disturbed about eight youths late on Tuesday night.

"It was about a quarter to 10, I'd gone to bed but my grandson was up watching TV," she said.

"He heard the gate open. When he went outside it was too dark for him to see them but he said there were about eight kids there. Police said the little buggers used scissors to turn the (ignition)."

Ms Fox said she was supposed to insure the van on Christmas Eve but "didn't get the chance".

Several online community groups have been posting nightly updates about crime in Palmerston for the past few weeks. It is a rare night that doesn't result in two or three reports about stolen cars.

Within an hour of Ms Fox writing a short post about her stolen van, the vigilante group was created. The group's founder wrote: "Criminal punishments are either non-existent or insufficient.



"We are dissatisfied with the current penalty implemented on offenders.

"We members of the community can respect that the police are currently trying their best in relation to the crime ... but without more officers to enforce the law it is not being implemented to full efficiency."

Police typically discourage people taking the law into their own hands. But NT Police did not respond to several calls by the NT News this week to discuss the concerns of residents and how they might more appropriately respond.

Ms Fox said she wanted to put pressure on the NT Government to hold parents financially responsible for damage caused by kids in their care.

"They should also meet the costs incurred to transport my disabled child to and from hospital, therapy or wherever she needs to go," she said.

"Let's get serious."


We all know in the Palmerston and Darwin areas it is the local abbos doing all this! The parents are just out drinking doing whatever and if they were to be held accountable for the damages.. nothing would happen. They havn't got any money.. it all comes from the welfare mob and they still get $ for booze!

The Police aren't going to fix the Abbos.. so the local residents have to do what it takes to stop them! Appauling!  So we have all the Ambulance personell quitting because of these Apes.. the Police and courts won't do a lot.. so yes... good hard working people have to do a DIY on them all.. and you can bet they'll be in the wrong after they defend themselves and their property.

THE alleged predator charged with the brutal rape and kidnap of a Darwin sex shop worker has faced court. 
 
The man, 19, appeared briefly in the dock at Darwin Magistrates Court and didn't apply for bail.

He was remanded and the matter adjourned for a preliminary examination mention on February 25.

The man allegedly threatened the 33-year-old SexyLand worker with a weapon and kidnapped her in the carpark when she finished her shift at the Stuart Park store.

He allegedly raped her.



She jumped out of the moving vehicle and escaped.

The accused was arrested at Bagot Community on Tuesday.

Police charged the man with:

Assault with intent to steal

Deprivation of liberty

Sexual intercourse without consent

Aggravated assault

Unlawful entry

Damage to property and

Multiple traffic related offences.



O.K So he is 19 and an adult but they won't show you his face or tell you who he is, but you can clearly see he is an Abbo! Dirty , filthy prick, can't get off with the stuff in the sex shop so he thinks he can make off with the cashier and rape her?

But he'll probably get told he is a "very naughty little Aborigine " and get a slap on the wrist.

POLICE arrested a naked, dishevelled man on Tuesday morning after a manhunt through wetlands at Ludmilla. 
 
The nude, lewd, rude dude fled from police after they had been called to a domestic disturbance on Fitzer Drive just before 8am.

Dozens of police set up a cordon around the wetlands next to Dick Ward Drive encircling the man, who was carrying a pair of red basketball shorts.

The NT Police dog squad helped track the runaway to a small corner of the wetlands.

Surprisingly athletic for his size, the man emerged from the swamp, attempting to sprint through the ever-tightening cordon in a last, desperate bid for freedom.

Appearing cold as he emerged from the water, the man's bid for freedom was short-lived.

The chase came to its inevitable, undignified end when the 47-year-old man was tackled by police and arrested on Richardson Ave.

Police restored a semblance of dignity for the man, by then dripping wet and handcuffed, and put his shorts on.

He remains in custody after being on the run for nearly two hours. Police had not laid charges by last night.

TWO police officers went for their tasers – one almost drawing his gun – when a man threatened them with an irrigation spike outside a Darwin city takeaway joint on Christmas Eve. 
 
Groote Eylandt mine worker Leo Durilla admitted to an assault police charge when he faced court yesterday.

Darwin Magistrate Greg Cavanagh said: "This is a serious example of aggressive behaviour ... it could have easily led to bloodshed or worse.

"The officers believed they were in serious danger."

Police were responding to a reported domestic dispute between Durilla and his partner.

They spoke with Durilla in the Uncle Sams takeaway food joint carpark, on Smith St, where they took his partner into protective custody because she was too drunk.


The court heard Durilla became "agitated" and obstructed the paddy wagon, demanding a packet of smokes from the woman in the cage, for about 10 minutes.

He faked that he was about to walk away, then produced a 30cm-long irrigation pipe which he had ripped out of the ground, held it over his head and brandished it in the direction of two constables.

One officer whipped out his taser and pulled his gun half out of its holster before Durilla got on the ground and was arrested. The other officer prepared to draw a taser.

Defence lawyer Marty Aust said his client, a machinery worker for a company affiliated with GEMCO on Groote Eylandt, didn't have a good recollection of the incident.

He said DurillaGorilla wasn't normally a big drinker.

Durilla breached a four-month suspended sentence for cannabis charges and disorderly behaviour at Alyangula.

Mr Cavanagh sentenced him to four months in prison, suspended after he has served two

A SHAMEFUL drunkDegenerate abbo has passed out with about $7000 of stolen grog in a wheelie bin at his feet just metres from the scene of the crime. 
 
Warren Andrew Argall appeared a bit worse for wear when he admitted robbing Char Restaurant.

"I'm ashamed of myself," he told Darwin Magistrates Court yesterday.

Argall and his co-accused Dion Crowle – whose backpack and ID were left behind – stole 151 bottles of assorted spirits and 216 stubbies of beer from the restaurant's locked cool room, the court heard.

The grog was valued at a total of $7507.

Prosecutor Anthony Albore said the pair entered Char, on the Esplanade, through an unlocked back gate on Monday night. They ripped off the cool room door and drank beer, the court heard.

Argall fetched a wheelie bin and loaded it with alcohol.

The two men left the restaurant, returning at intervals during the night with "unknown men" to steal more boxes and six packs of beer, the court heard. The crimes were caught on security camera.



Police found Argall unconscious on the path outside Char with the wheelie bin full of spirits and a carton each of Corona and Boags.

Mr Albore said the accused conceded he was one of the men on the CCTV footage but remembered nothing about the previous night.

Police reported that some people who entered the cool room throughout the night had defecated on the floor.


Several days before the break-in, Argall asked police for "a lift" after they told him to get off Mitchell St.

He was sitting in the middle of the road.

Argall tried to break free while being manhandled into the paddy wagon.

His partner, whom he was banned from contacting, came up to ask for her Basics Card and he threatened to "smash your head in".

He was sentenced to a total of one month and three days in prison. Magistrate Michael Carey told him: "You better do something about your drinking problem."

Crowle was remanded to face court in January.

ONE of three inmates who escaped from Port Augusta Prison remains at large as the Corrections Department begins an investigation into how they were able to break out. 
 
Police are continuing to search for Howard Clyde Weetra after he and fellow inmates Craig Cullinan and Troy Churchill escaped from the low-security section of Port Augusta Prison about 10.30pm on Wednesday.

The men were seen running south and wearing prison-issue green trousers and maroon coloured tops.

Cullinan, 23, of Coober Pedy, and Churchill, 32, from Mimili, were arrested by police in Port Augusta West about 5.30am on Thursday.

Police have searched several properties in and around Port Augusta on Thursday but are yet to find Weetra.

Weetra, 24, from Port Augusta, is described as of Aboriginal appearance, 171cm tall, 61kg and of slim build.
