A DRUNK man (VERY DRUNK BOONG!) smashed his partner in the head with a milk crate because she was taking too long to cook his dinner, a court has been told. 
 
Marshall Pamkal admitted the aggravated assault on his partner of seven years, Margaret Smith, along with breaking domestic violence and alcohol protection orders when he faced Darwin Magistrates Court.

He blew 0.296 at the time he was arrested.

But the case was adjourned for hearing after Pamkal disputed the allegation that he hit the victim first.

Defence lawyer Koulla Roussos said her client was provoked when the victim hit him in the head with the milk crate, and he retaliated.

But prosecutor Jill Goddard challenged the submission.



Ms Goddard told the court that Pamkal and his partner got drunk together at Palmerston on August 5.

The victim put on dinner to cook and sat down to watch TV about 9.30pm.

Pamkal got angry and said, "When's the food going to be bloody cooked?"

"The victim told him the stove wasn't working," Ms Goddard said. "He picked up the milk crate and hit the top of her head.

"She saw blood falling on her skirt and became angry – she grabbed the crate off the defendant. She swung it at him and hit him in the head."

The couple was standing at the front gate of their home when police arrived. The victim required nine staples to heal the 5cm gash on her head.

Ms Roussos said her client didn't raise a self-defence issue but the issue of who struck the first blow could influence mitigation of the crime.

The case was adjourned until next month.

Police yesterday released flyers containing photos of people they want to speak to in relation to a random attack on a 68-year-old man who was punched to the ground on Mitchell St about 2am Saturday.

Detective Sergeant Isobel Cummins from the Major Crime Squad said police were appealing to the public to find the two men wearing white shirts who were spotted on security footage on the morning of the assault.

The victim remains in a critical but stable condition in Royal Darwin Hospital.

Mr Garraway said Darwin's infamous brawling hotspot Mitchell St usually has "absolutely nothing" on the rest of the NT when it comes to bashings and assaults.

"If you added up how many assaults took place in a day (in the NT), it's often zero in Mitchell St and 50 somewhere else," Mr Garraway said.

"The most serious (incidents) happen in remote communities where there's alcohol involved, stabbings and other weapons used."

Mr Garraway said assaults on Mitchell St were noticed more than those which took place elsewhere because it was a busy strip. He estimated the service would attend between 20 and 50 assaults each day across the NT.



"Assaults happen all day, every day all around the NT and Australia," he said.

"Where there's people there's assaults. It doesn't matter if they're Aboriginal or white people, they happen every day – in Alice Springs, Katherine, Tenant Creek, Darwin, Palmerston and everywhere in between."


NT Police media liaison Amy Sloan refused to put a police officer in touch with the NT News to discuss assault trends in the Territory.

"The latest crime statistics will be released on Friday ... police won't be commenting further," Ms Sloan said.

The most recent crime figures show there were 7391 assaults in the NT between June 1, 2013 and May 31 this year.

Alcohol-related assaults were up 2.8 per cent for the year, while domestic violence-related assaults increased by 5.6 per cent. The most common injuries treated are bruising and cuts.

You can bet the assaults are mainly done by Abbos in their hell hole communities, fighting over grog or money usually!

"SOMEONE was not dancing properly" at a remote Northern Territory funeral on Friday afternoon. 
 
That caused an argument, a vehicle rollover involving two children and an alleged attempted arson.

A 33-year-old man was attending a funeral at Alyangula, on Groote Eylandt, on Friday afternoon.

Territory Duty Superintendent Jo Foley said: "There was a male who was at a funeral when an argument broke out over someone not dancing properly".

"It's alleged he engaged in an argument with family.

"So the male allegedly stormed off and climbed into the driver's seat of his ­LandCruiser.

"There were already a number of people in the vehicle, including two kids aged two and four.

"He revved it up, and allegedly attempted to slide it around a corner and it rolled over, and then he allegedly attempted to set the car on fire.

"Family members stopped him (from setting the car on fire) and then he allegedly ran off without offering assistance to the kids," Duty Supt Foley added.

A SERIES of riots that gripped the peaceful Ti Tree township and surrounding communities in 2013 have been reignited. 
 
A Ti Tree resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said the recent riots are bigger than the previous ones and have lasted about a week.

"It's the same crew (as the last ones)," they said.

"It's been going for over a week — last Thursday they had a big meeting in the park about lease money that had to get cancelled.



"Then that night they burnt cars in Stirling and Six Mile (communities)."

The resident said police had to come in to calm the situation.

The previous riots started after a child was allegedly sexually abused, leading to a family group to split in a bitter dispute.

In those riots, about $60,000 worth of damage was caused 13 houses at Ti Tree Station.

No matter what kind of coon it is , rioting and madness is all they know.

A man has robbed a Darwin massage parlour at knife point. 
 
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said police were looking for witnesses for the incident which happened about 10.30pm on Wednesday night in a business in the Nightcliff Shopping Centre.

"It is alleged a man wearing a black balaclava entered the establishment holding a knife," he said.

"The man stole a small safe, which contained no cash and left the scene."

Sen Sgt Stringer said police were looking for a man described as being 177cm, with dark skin

with a solid or slightly chubby build who was wearing a white or grey t-shirt with a pattern on the front and dark shorts..

ALICE Springs residents, who say they fear for their safety, have called on the town mayor to respond to a recent spike in youth crime. 
 
Donna Luvitalot Lemon last week posted to Mayor Damien Ryan's Facebook page, asking what he could do to address the issue.

The post read: "I am sure you are well aware of the high level of anti-social behaviour occurring in Alice Springs.

"Yesterday, a vehicle had its windows smashed in a public car park. Last night, a motorist was threatened for his life and a lady was nearly pulled from her car while she was in transit.

"Today, a lady was abused in a public place. She, too, feared for her life. Just some examples of what people are experiencing."

However, Mayor Ryan told the Centralian Advocate he was "not going to get involved through Facebook" and had privately replied to the user.

Andrea Hill also voiced her concerns via social media, attributing the failure of local businesses to criminal activity.

"My company delivers to Woolworths Alice Springs in the early hours each morning.

"Last Friday morning our driver was forced to lock himself in his prime mover (as) he was so concerned for his own safety. This was due to a huge mob of young Indigenous people ... trolling the streets of the CBD looking for trouble.

"No wonder Alice is slowly shutting down — one business and one family at a time."

The situation comes just months after Alice Springs Town Council met with Attorney-General John Elferink over a previous spike in youth crime around the time of the last school holidays.

The outcome of the meeting remains confidential; however the government has continued to reiterate its hard line approach to youth justice.

"The Northern Territory Government has invested in initiatives and programs which are designed to reduce youth offending and turn around the behaviour of at-risk young people," Mr Elferink said.

"Boot camps for youths who are at risk of leading an offending life are now in operation and are delivering real results for the participating individuals. Additionally, Youth Justice ... is offering problem youths and their families the support they need to change their troubling behaviour."

See the Mayor doesn't want to upset all those Bush Gorillas in Alice Springs . I Bet I know what the plan is? Throw the garbage over the neighbour's fence! Send them south for the Adelaide people to deal with!
