The security footage — filmed from several angles on the shop's 12 cameras — shows the youths laughing as they take turns stealing various items and ignoring Mr Paris' pleas for them to stop.

In one frame, a boy in a red hat appears to threaten Mr Paris as he gets dangerously close to his face.

"He said 'do you want me to beat you down?'," Mr Paris said.

"The other asked if I want to be still alive."

"I didn't want to make it worse for me so I didn't wrestle him down."

The footage shows the boy wearing the hat going behind the sales counter and throwing cigarettes — which Mr Paris had been restocking prior to the robbery — and bags of money from the till to his friends.

POLICE have made arrests and laid charges after a group of youths were caught on CCTV cameras ­allegedly robbing a Darwin supermarket and menacing the owner. 
 
Four youths are to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court on Friday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the youths were allegedly involved in four separate incidents on Saturday 10 May.

"At around 8am it is alleged the youths stole a van and a small refrigerator from a home in Moil, only to break down in Leanyer a short time later.

"It's reported that the youths waved down a 66-year-old man who attempted to offer assistance. The youths fled the scene with the man's wallet and other personal items. The victim gave chase in his vehicle and recovered his wallet nearby."

At around 6.50pm it is alleged the same youths attended the Anula Supermarket and threatened the store owner. The group fled the scene with cigarettes, soft drinks and a quantity of cash.

A short time later police received a report that the group had attended the Northlakes Shopping Centre and stole a quantity of alcohol.

Yesterday police located and arrested five of the youths, four males and a female, aged 12-15.

They were charged with a number of offences including robbery, stealing, trespass and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The 12-year-old male received bail and the three males, two aged 14 and a 15-year-old, were remanded in custody.

A 15-year-old female is to receive Youth Diversion.

"This type of mindless behaviour is unacceptable and Strike Force Trident Detectives expect to make further arrests in relation to these offences," Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer concluded.

Police said stock was taken from the supermarket shelves and the shopkeeper threatened during the alleged crime spree over the weekend.

Police claim the group is also responsible for allegedly robbing and attempting to ­assault an elderly man in Leanyer after flagging him down to help fix an alleged ­stolen car they were travelling in over the weekend.

While the good Samaritan was distracted under the bonnet, his phone and wallet were taken from his vehicle, police said. It is alleged the group ­attempted to assault the man before taking off

TEENAGE girls in Darwin and Palmerston are being targeted by peers in vicious attacks at the cities' bus interchanges. 
 
The Sunday Territorian has been told of two recent attacks on girls occurring on the same day at the Casuarina and Palmerston bus exchanges.

One occurred when three girls followed a 15-year-old girl getting off a bus at the Casuarina interchange and punched her in the head as many as 15 times, according to the victim's mother Tara Nash.

The other was a 13-year-old chased by a group of 10 girls from the Palmerston bus interchange to outside Hog's Breath Cafe where she was bashed and left with a broken nose.

"My daughter went to hospital ... she's a tiny little thing and been attacked five or six times in the last few weeks," mother Allittia Marsh said.

"The pack mentality is getting worse and worse ... I'm scared these girls will kill a child."

For Ms Marsh, pressing charges has only led to more problems.

She told the Sunday Territorian she was personally attacked in a car park by the girls last week.

Ms Marsh and Ms Nash say they have had enough.

"I'm really disgusted with the bus company, it's getting out of control, they need to have more transit officers," Ms Nash said.

"I send my daughter to Darwin (from the rural area) for a better education and future­, and at this point she can't travel alone — what could've happened if her friend wasn't with her?"

A teen boy, speaking in the NT News' May 10 Saturday Extra, said there were girls or boys fighting nearly every day at the Casuarina exchange.

Jekessa Corpus, of Karama, said she mainly saw fights on Friday nights at the Casuarina interchange.

Ms Corpus, who catches buses at least twice a week, said young and old people got involved.

"During the day it's fine, but at night I feel unsafe," she said.

"They could have better security when you get on the buses."

Fellow commuter Chantelle Grant, of Darwin City, agreed.

"It gets a bit rowdy on buses so I avoid trying to use them ... one or two times I've had people (fighting) over me (while I'm sitting down)," she said.

Superintendent Daniel Shean said NT Police was currently investigating one incident of an alleged aggravated assault involving a group of school aged girls known to one another.

He said there was no evidence to suggest an increase of violence at either interchange, and that "both the Casuarina and Palmerston interchanges continue to be monitored closely".

"Police use a number of strategies to combat crime and anti-social behaviour in and around the bus interchanges," he said.

"These strategies include the use of intelligence gathering and ongoing engagement and co-operative action with other stakeholders, including transport safety officers, and the use of closed-circuit television.

"We continue to take a no tolerance approach towards anti-social behaviour."

FOUR youths have been charged after allegedly stealing a motor vehicle, which they crashed into a fence in Malak. 
 
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said a 13-year-old female and three males aged 13, 14, and 15 allegedly stole the vehicle from a residence in Driver on Tuesday night.

"The youths attended a service station in Fannie Bay and allegedly filled the car up with $78 worth of petrol before driving off," Sergeant Stringer said.

"The youths drove the vehicle to Malak before losing control of the car and colliding into a fence on the corner of Patterson Street and Vanderlin Drive.

"The vehicle sustained extensive damage to its undercarriage rendering the Ford Falcon undriveable.

"The youths fled the scene and were arrested by Strike Force Trident Detectives yesterday."

PUBLIC consumption of alcohol is bordering on "non-existent" in the wake of the Northern Territory Police Force's recent crackdown on bottleshops in Alice Springs. 
 
Figures released by the council's Ranger Unit last week have revealed zero infringements and warning notices were issued during the past two months.

The same report suggested the number of standard drinks being tipped out — a controversial issue among the broader community — also stood at nil.

Corporate and Community Services director Craig Catchlove confirmed the drop was a result of the increase in police presence outside liquor outlets.

"The bottom line is that although there was a dramatic amount of youth activity and vandalism happening in town last month, the actual public consumption of alcohol has been very, very low," he said.
(Still doesn't mean coons won't quit being coons )

"It is absolutely a result of police being stationed outside bottleshops. It has had the most impact of any anti-alcohol initiative in the past 10-20 years.

"We have said this loud and clear to a lot of people that it may be controversial (with racial profiling) but there is no denying the effectiveness of the police outside bottleshops.

"Public consumption of alcohol is continuing to be bordering on the non-existent now, and council is continuing to work with police through afternoon river runs to keep numbers down."

Sergeant Danny Bell of the NT Police Force's Divisional Support Unit said the strategy had visibly reduced the introduction and consumption of alcohol in restricted areas.

"It's very visible, it's what keeps the guys (police officers) motivated," he said.

"They want to see mums, dads and kids be able to go to a supermarket (near a licensed premises) and feel safe, not be hassled with any antisocial behaviour.

"We really do try and work hard to ensure that area is clear of that sort of trouble."

Sergeant Bell said Operation Leyland - a focused taskforce monitor licences premises between February 27 to April 2 - achieved impressive results with the number of assaults reducing by 54 per cent, compared to the same period last year.

He said the public was originally suspicious of the strategy due to a lack of understanding but now he said they are "overwhelmingly positive".

"Our aim is to ask a broad cross section of the community and ask them where they are consuming the alcohol," Sergeant Bell said.

"We regularly have people question why they were asked and our standard response to that is we ask everybody that we can (and) we are trying to ensure the safety of people in Alice Springs, particularly vulnerable people in alcohol protected areas.

"We get regular questions and we appreciate that, there are no issues with people talking to us about that strategy."

However, Mr Catchlove said the Ranger Unit was expecting another spike in numbers with the upcoming Melbourne Demons and Port Adelaide Power match later this month.

"There is no doubt that our figures correlate to major events in town that attract people in from the communities and that's when our statistics spike," he said.
