FOUR men accused of sexually assaulting a woman are eluding detectives in Alice Springs. 
 
Police have called for witnesses to the alleged attack on a 31-year-old woman that happened between the town's Eastside and Anzac Hill about 11pm on Thursday.

A red four-door sedan with a beaded necklace hanging from the rearview mirror was also invovled in the incident but police could not be contacted this afternoon to confirm how the incident unfolded.

The alleged offenders were aged between 20 and 25-years-old.

One offender was described as an Aboriginal man with dark skin, short curly black hair with an undercut above his ears and facial stubble, 180cm tall and fit, wearing a black t-shirt with a motif on the front and blue jeans.

The second was described an Aboriginal man with light skin, skinny and 180cm tall with black short hair.

He was wearing a white baseball cap and white t-shirt.

The third was described as an Aboriginal man with dark skin, skinny and about 180cm tall with black straight, short hair.

He was wearing a black t-shirt.

NT Police are appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed as she was walking to her Palmerston home. 
 
Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said the woman had left a pub and was walking to her home in the suburb of Gray when she was attacked on Temple Tce, near the Essington Ave intersection, about 3am.

"She was approached by a male who pushed her over and grabbed her handbag from her," said Superintendent Jorgensen.

"She ran screaming in the direction of Timpson Ave.

"There were lots of dogs barking near a block of flats, so if anyone saw anything please contact Police."

It is understood the woman may have also been indecently assaulted. Detectives spent yesterday doorknocking the area.

She received minor injuries to her legs.

Her handbag was later recovered.

The male is described as being skinny, of dark appearance, in his early 20s, wearing dark shorts, black shoes and no shirt.


Dirty Abos just can't leave people and property alone! Just a year or so ago in Alice the Abos broke into a van with some Euro chicks in it and raped them all too!

Former AFL footballer Liam Jurrah appeared frail and exhausted in the Alice Springs Magistrate's Court this morning 
 
The 25-year-old, who arrived to court early with a female companion, slumped in his seat before Magistrate David Bamber with medical tubes poking out of his bandaged right arm.

His lawyer told the court he would plead guilty to each of the driving charges received last year but at a later date because he is unwell.

Jurrah has spent time in and out of hospital recently for an unknown medical condition.

He faced a number of charges this morning including driving in the Northern Territory while disqualified interstate, driving at speed and in a manner that is dangerous, and failing to obey the directions of a police officer.

His case has been adjourned to April 10.

Jurrah was charged in December last year for provoking a high-speed chase after failing to stop when seen speeding on the Stuart Highway in Alice Springs.

Police were forced to call off the pursuit for safety reasons after speeds of up to 140km/h were allegedly reached in a 100km/h zone.

ALICE Springs police are investigating a sexual assault of a 30-year-old woman this morning. 
 
The woman was riding her bike when a male approached and assaulted her about 1.30am.

She managed to fight him off and ride home.

The incident took place on Schwartz Crescent East Side.

The offender is described as having a dark complexion, about 170cm tall, about 20 years old with short hair, wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans.

TAXI drivers considered a snap 24-hour strike in the wake of continued incidents of rock-throwing in Alice Springs. 
 
But they decided to stay on the road because of the AFL NAB Challenge match in the town last night.

Drivers considered the strike action after a taxi was rocked in the early hours yesterday, leaving driver Gagandeep Singh in hospital with a broken jaw and other facial injuries.

An Alice Springs Hospital spokeswoman said Mr Singh was flown to Darwin late yesterday afternoon for surgery.

13Cabs owner Pammi Singh said the drivers were scared for their safety after the incident.

"We spoke to police for about an hour in the afternoon and they assured us they would help us in any way they could," he said.

"We need help from the community.

"The drivers are scared but they will not call a strike without giving warning to the public."

Drivers from both taxi companies that service Alice Springs are angry about the repeated attacks.

They want action to protect them and their passengers from almost nightly attacks.

"What needs to happen for action to be taken a driver hit in the temple and killed?" one driver said.

Alice Springs Taxis director Samih Habib called for police to step up their efforts to stop the rock throwing.

"We want police to be more active on this matter," he said.

"Is a taxi driver's life, as a human being, worth something or not."

The incident followed seven taxis being damaged by rocks being thrown at them last weekend.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said the Mr Singh, 32, had passengers inside the vehicle and was ravelling north on the Stuart Highway about 2:20am.

Police are particularly interested in speaking to the two passengers.

"As the driver approached the intersection of Herbert Heritage Drive and the Stuart Highway a rock was thrown at the vehicle, shattering the driver side window," Sen-Sgt Phillips said.

TWO lawnmowers were thrown through a takeaway shop window and bowsers at a nearby fuel station damaged after a man took out his frustrations with the world.. 
 
The 20-year-old man allegedly stole the two lawnmowers — chained together — from a servo in the Darwin suburb of Malak about 4am on Saturday, March 15.

Senior Sergeant Louise Jorgensen said residents called police when they heard "something big breaking".

There was "extensive damage" to several bowsers — possibly caused by a swinging fire extinguisher; and to four window panes and a door of Kebab on Malak.

"He was fairly intoxicated," she said.

"He chastised police for their tardiness upon their attendance a couple of minutes later.

"One would think he wanted to be arrested.

"He didn't appear to have resisted arrest."

The lawnmowers were diesel push-style, rather than a ride-on type, and were on hire outside the servo. Both were back at the servo yesterday, but damaged.

She said the CCTV footage clearly showed the offending.

"It appears he allegedly got the lawnmowers from BP Malak," she said.

Its expected property offence charges will be laid. When he sobers up," Sen Sgt Jorgensen said.

"ROCKED" taxi driver Gagandeep Singh is expected to return to Alice Springs tomorrow but it will be months before he can return to work. 
 
Mr Singh had surgery on Saturday, with bone taken from his head, and a plate inserted, to mend his jaw, broken when a rock was thrown at his taxi.

But of major concern is he is suffering from double vision and has lost peripheral vision. He is seeing a doctor in Darwin today about this.

His employer, 13 CABS, has made an insurance claim for worker's compensation to help cover his loss of earnings until he can return to work.

Meanwhile, the two Alice Springs-based taxi companies have put on a united front in discussions with police and NT Government departments to discuss measures to curb the incidents of rock throwing before someone is more seriously injured or even killed, including police conducting patrols in taxis so they are on hand when an incident occurs.

Alice Springs Taxis manager Nathan Fricker said it was a slow process but the positive was the two companies, police and relevant authorities were working together to gain a result to end the stone throwing.

He said that many drivers were reluctant to report incidents to police as to go through the necessary procedure meant the taxi could be off the road for a couple of hours, which meant loss of income.
