A WOMAN who claimed to be a health worker gained entry into an elderly man's home and stole cash from him before fleeing the scene. 
 


The incident took place in a Territory housing block on Dick Ward Drive in Coconut Grove around 11.15am yesterday.

Duty superintendent Jo Foley said NT Police were searching for the woman who robbed the man of $200 in cash.

"We are investigating the matter," Sup Foley said.

The victim told police he noticed the money was missing after the woman left his home.

The offender has been described by police as a "dark-skinned female, 30-40 years of age, skinny build, dark hair to shoulders, wearing a brown patterned dress (and) green thongs".

DARWIN bus drivers say they have increasing concerns about their safety on the job, after a female driver was belted by a teenager wielding a full whisky bottle. 
 
The violent incident, which occurred at the Casuarina depot on Wednesday, has sparked some fiery comments from the Transport Workers Union.

The bus driver displayes her facial injuries.     

The union's SA and NT secretary Ray Wyatt said the number of incidents, including rock throwing and violent events, had increased in recent months since the NT Government announced it would privatise the service.

Security measures were "soft", he said.

"All Territorians deserve a safe and reliable public transport system," Mr Wyatt said.

He said the union would write to the Government expressing its concerns after the incident during the week.

"It sounded absolutely horrible and bus drivers should not have to put up with that sort of thing," he said.

The Sunday Territorian understands the driver, 55, was sweeping her bus at Casuarina about 8pm on Wednesday night when she told a group of three youths it was dangerous to run around the depot.

She was then attacked by one of the boys, believed to be a 14-year-old, who hit her with a backpack stuffed with a full whisky bottle.

She suffered facial injuries, including severe bruising.





The woman's daughter, who preferred not to name her mother, said her mum would likely be off work for a significant period of time.

"She was pretty distressed about it," she said. "Her whole face is still swollen."

The attacker then fled but the two other boys stayed with the badly injured bus driver until help had arrived.

"Two young boys came to her aid and we would like to say thank you to them for taking care of our mum," the driver's daughter said.

Bus drivers, who earn $44,000 a year, went on strike last year over pay.

A PRISONER who escaped from Royal Darwin Hospital has been arrested. 
 
The man, 23, escaped from the hospital this morning but was arrested by police near Casuarina Shopping Centre about 11am.

The prisoner was in hospital for a medical examination when he escaped.

He was arrested by about eight police officers near Ultra Tune on Dripstone Rd after a 90-minute search.

The man was of Aboriginal appearance with dreadlock hair worn in a bun.

He was wearing a black t-shirt with writing on the front and long black shorts.

FOUR men accused of sexually assaulting a woman are eluding detectives in Alice Springs. 
 
Police have called for witnesses to the alleged attack on a 31-year-old woman that happened between the town's Eastside and Anzac Hill about 11pm on Thursday.

A red four-door sedan with a beaded necklace hanging from the rearview mirror was also invovled in the incident but police could not be contacted this afternoon to confirm how the incident unfolded.

The alleged offenders were aged between 20 and 25-years-old.

One offender was described as an Aboriginal man with dark skin, short curly black hair with an undercut above his ears and facial stubble, 180cm tall and fit, wearing a black t-shirt with a motif on the front and blue jeans.

The second was described an Aboriginal man with light skin, skinny and 180cm tall with black short hair.

He was wearing a white baseball cap and white t-shirt.

The third was described as an Aboriginal man with dark skin, skinny and about 180cm tall with black straight, short hair.

He was wearing a black t-shirt.

NT Police are appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed as she was walking to her Palmerston home. 
 
Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said the woman had left a pub and was walking to her home in the suburb of Gray when she was attacked on Temple Tce, near the Essington Ave intersection, about 3am.

"She was approached by a male who pushed her over and grabbed her handbag from her," said Superintendent Jorgensen.

"She ran screaming in the direction of Timpson Ave.

"There were lots of dogs barking near a block of flats, so if anyone saw anything please contact Police."

It is understood the woman may have also been indecently assaulted. Detectives spent yesterday doorknocking the area.

She received minor injuries to her legs.

Her handbag was later recovered.

The male is described as being skinny, of dark appearance, in his early 20s, wearing dark shorts, black shoes and no shirt.
