Army Life In The SADF

the vehicles are different....but the terrain and, in some respects, the uniforms are the same.....ARA wore a combo' of jungle greens and khaki until abt the mid-1980s, if memory serves!

(thought the SADF used "slurs".....SLRs/7.62NATO....i know the Rhodesians did....certainly the Selous Scouts and the Rhodesian SASR)

If we ignore the different weapons and vehicles, and only pay attention to the terrain (the bush), the uniforms (greens and bush hat) and the style they are in which they are worn, and the all White soldiers, they look like they could be from the Australian Army of the 80's.

Jimbo, we used the 7.62 in the R1 and Browning. The Browning was one of my guns on the Ratel to get on target Shooting the Browning 1919A4 machine Gun

In the SADF did you ever meet the case when your corporal or sergeant or sergeant major asked you to "give your idea" it was the matter to take out yourself by commit suicide, this was current too in 1982 with the foreigners ex Rhodesian

Nope - but I do believe the special force units would rather commit suicide before being caught by the enemy to escape torture. I do believe Wouter Basson who was in control of the chemical programmes in the SADF did manufacture suicide tablets, but taking it was up to the individual

I would not say in détails on Creator Forum but SADF overlooked me. Never held her part of our contract.
