-It is just the latest in a long string of violent incidents taking place on board planes or at airports in the wake of the COVID pandemic

A decision was formally made on Monday night by Lake Macquarie councillors to rebrand Coon Island, situated at Swansea, 25km south of Newcastle, in NSW.

The area is now set to boast both an Indigenous and non-Indigenous name, rather than its long standing single locality.

Coon is a deeply offensive appropriate racist slur used to describe black Australia's unevolved, Ape People - in the same way it's used in America.

The spread of cyber racism has become an increasingly prominent issue, from Myanmar to India, from the USA to Africa, and throughout Europe. An Australian study, 'Cyber Racism and Community Resilience'[1] (Jakubowicz et al., 2017) has recently been completed by an interdisciplinary research team from six Australian universities, in partnership with the Australian Research Council, the Australian Human Rights Commission, VicHealth and the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia, and in conjunction with the Online Hate Prevention Institute (OHPI). This article draws on that study to reflect on one aspect of online racism, namely antisemitism, and the rise of online neo-nazism. While the full study covers many ethnic, racial and religious groups, antisemitism has been chosen here because the author came across a strong antisemitic attack directed towards him online, and discovered in pursuing its origins some of the real world complexities of fighting racism online.

AN 'EMBARRASSED' Taylor Walker has been slapped with a six-match ban - that will rule him out for the remainder of the 2021 season and the start of 2022 - and a $20,000 sanction that will be donated to an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program in South Australia

The 31yo forward has been the subject of an investigation under the Peek Rule (Rule 35 of the AFL Rules), which relates to discrimination and racial and religious vilification.

The key forward was reported by an official from his own club who overheard a racist comment made at a SANFL match on July 17, 2021.

Walker made the comment - regarding North Adelaide player and former Saint Robbie Young - to an Adelaide teammate who was playing in the SANFL game

Yesterday, conciliation was held between Walker, Young, the Adelaide official and the AFL where a remorseful Walker apologised to Young and the official.

"There is no excuse or justification for the words I said. They are unacceptable and I take full accountability for that," Walker said.

"I am deeply ashamed. I did not intend to cause harm, but I know and understand that I have caused deep hurt to the official who reported the matter and to Robbie Young, to both of their families and to the wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. I apologise to all of them and to the Adelaide and North Adelaide Football Clubs
