In the NT there are these bars Boongs drink at to be Rowdy on dole day. "Animal bars" there is one pub that is a well respected pub with a diner. However around the back they have an animal bar full of "Ape men". All the furniture is bolted to the ground and windows are plastic and can't be busted. The bar has bars on it like a bank to stop thugs from jumping the counter.Gaol stuff you know?!

Two women have been hospitalised after a glassing attack outside the notorious "animal bar" of the Todd Tavern in Alice Springs, witnesses have told the ABC.

A witness described one woman smashing a glass bottle and using the shards to attack the other in the face and torso.

Security staff said they refused at least one of the women entry to the hotel earlier in the day.

The attack occurred in a separate section of the premises Alice Springs residents call the "animal bar".

It is only open from 10am-2pm (ACST) and closes as soon as the takeaway opens.

Blood and broken glass dotted the footpath outside the Todd Tavern immediately after the attack.

The condition of both women was not known.

Police have said they are investigating.

Four years ago a group in Alice Springs, concerned by problem drinking in the community, proposed buying the Todd Tavern and closing it down.

It followed a landmark report that described what it called "rivers of grog" in the Northern Territory.
