LEGENDARY Australian rockers AC/DC have confirmed Malcolm Young has officially retired from the band as they reveal their new record Rock Or Bust will be released on November 28. 
 
The 15th studio record from the enduring band will be their first without Malcolm in their 40-year career.

As AC/DC gear up to unleash their first new tunes in six years, they stated Malcolm would not be touring or recording with them in the future.

"Unfortunately due to the nature of Malcolm's illness, he will not be rejoining the band," they said in a statement issued by their label Alberts and Sony Music Australia.

Rock Or Bust is the follow-up to their hugely successful 2008 album Black Ice, which sold eight million copies worldwide and debuted at No. 1 in 31 countries.

When launching his debut solo album last month, drummer Phil Rudd dismissed rumours that AC/DC had considered calling it a day in the wake of Malcolm's ill health.
"Angus Young will never retire," Rudd said.

"We were never going to retire. It'll never happen. Angus will never retire and as long as Angus never retires I won't f---ing retire either."

Rudd said Angus took on the songwriting duties solo in his brother's absence and next year's tour details were yet to be finalised.

Malcolm Young's battle with dementia happened suddenly, according to music industry insiders.Michael Browning, who managed AC/DC from 1974 to 1979, said while he hadn't spoken to the band since he parted ways with them, he has friends who keep him in the loop.

'I have friends that are still involved and they keep me posted so I have known for a little while. I think it (Young's illness) came on very suddenly,' Browning told AAP.

Fairfax Media reported on Friday that the 61-year-old rocker was in an aged care facility - Lulworth House in Elizabeth Bay, in Sydney's eastern suburbs - being treated for dementia.

Browning said he heard the 61-year-old rocker suffered from a stroke and knew he had dementia and was being looked after in a home.

'I didn't know which one but I knew he was in a nursing home type place of some kind,' he said.'It's shocking it's terrible. Sadly for AC/DC they're losing their creator, their mentor he's the genius behind the band.

'Browning said he would be interested to hear the band's new record, due out on November 28, without Young's input.

Young's nephew, Steve Young, has stepped in to replace his uncle on the record and will play in his stead during the band's tour.
