An Aboriginal activist told Ben Fordham he had 'put a target' on himself in a tense on-air exchange after the 2GB radio host labelled him a 'pest and a moron


Paul Silva, a Black Lives Matter campaigner, made headlines last week after he told a police officer the law did not apply to him because he's Aboriginal.

Silva was pulled over on March 30 at South Kempsey, on the NSW mid-north coast, for allegedly using his mobile phone while driving.

Fordham obtained an audio recording of the subsequent interaction, in which Silva was repeatedly obstructive, telling the officer the 'law doesn't apply to me as an Aboriginal man'.

Despite this, he was later charged with two driving infringements. 

After the radio host labelled him a 'pest and a moron', Silva rang up 2GB on Monday to accuse Fordham of 'poor journalism' for not finding out the 'back story'.

When the officer told him his body camera was already on, Silva again said 'Well, don't raise your voice at me.'

The officer told him that all Silva had to do was 'just follow directions', but he again refused to comply.

'No, no, no, no, no, I don't follow your directions. Your law doesn't apply to me as an Aboriginal man,' he said.

'I stopped you for a reason,' the officer responded, getting frustrated at Silva's behaviour.

He then asked the activist not to yell at him.

'If you (don't) want to be yelled at, stop yelling at me, I'll yell back at you,' Silva replied.
When he asked for his name and address, which is standard for any police stop, Silva ignored him and instead counted from one to 10 and then told the officer his name and address were written on his license.

The NSW police confirmed to 2GB that a 26-year-old male driver was spoken to before leaving the location and allegedly excessively beeped the vehicle's horn as he drove away.

Silva was issued with two traffic infringement notices: driver used mobile phone where not permitted and use horn or similar device unnecessarily.

Shock as principal at Alice Springs school for indigenous kids is ARRESTED for allegedly assaulting children after they 'entered a room and smeared paint all over the place'

The principal of an Indigenous school in the Northern Territory has been accused of physically assaulting multiple children.

Yipirinya School principal Gavin Morris has been arrested by NT police and is being held at Alice Springs watch-house, reports The Australian.
According to one staff member at the school, police had been inquiring about an incident two years ago in which kids vandalised a building used for childcare.

'The kids got in through an unlocked door and smeared paint all over the place,' the staff member said.

'They didn't smash any windows, the door was unlocked and they helped themselves inside and had a field day.'

The 'shocked' staff member said they had heard the arrest stemmed from that incident and they 'couldn't believe it'.

Mr Morris, who holds a PhD in Aboriginal trauma and lectures at Charles Darwin University, has previously been vocal in the media about the crisis for Aboriginal children in remote communities.

Mr Morris said the school is regularly in contact with local magistrates so bail conditions can be varied for children as young as 12 to participate in after-school programs.

He spoke of one incident in which teachers called him during the night and said they were in their cars following a school minibus that had been stolen by a group of students for a joy ride.

Footage from the August 2022 incident shows the Yipirinya school bus smashing through the gates and speeding off into the streets of Alice Springs at 9pm with teachers in pursuit.

There were 10 students on board with the driver aged 12 and the oldest in the vehicle 14.

The bus veered through the streets as teachers flashed their headlights and beeped their horns screaming at them to stop.

'You little sh*** ... pull over!' one teacher screamed in frustration.

At several points the bus swerved onto the wrong side of the road and ran off the road screeching its tyres.

The chase ended when the kids jumped out as the bus was still moving outside an Indigenous camp.

They then jumped fences and ran in opposite directions to escape being caught.

The children returned to school the following day after the bus was written off and no one was charged.

You know Once I applied for the job of mini bus driver at the school! I remember the interview! They said that people who weren't students often felt entitled to ride the bus too and I told them that if they never had an ochre card on my show they wouldn't get on. I think they thought that could be too aggressive? Anyway they never took me. Imagine if I was still there with my bus getting flogged?
