A MAN was pulled out of his car and struck with a steel pole in a botched carjacking in Palmerston on Monday morning. 
 
Police said the man, driving a blue Holden Astra, was stopped at a red light on the corner of Roystonea Ave and Lambrick Ave when a pedestrian demanded the man give him the car before attempting to pull him out.

Watch Commander Daniel Whitfield-Jones said the driver managed to flee.

"An altercation occurred and the driver was struck with a small steel pole before returning to his vehicle and leaving the scene," he said.

The incident happened about 6am Monday.

The man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, wearing a white singlet and brown shorts. He has a stud in his left ear, a scar on his left forearm and a possible tattoo on his right calf aged in his mid-20s with facial hair.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may recognise this person from the description should contact Police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A WOMAN was punched to the ground and "repeatedly jumped on" by her partner outside Harvey Norman Darwin before a motorist stopped to help on Saturday night. 
 
Duty Superintendent Helen Braam said the "serious incident" took place after the woman, 50, refused to go home with the man, 45.

"There was an argument between the two where the male wanted the female to go home or go with him to another house and she refused," Supt Braam said. "He has then punched her to the ground, kicked her in the ribs and then he's sat on her with his full body weight bouncing up and down on her."

Supt Braam said a motorist stopped to assist the woman.

The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital to be assessed for possible fractured ribs.

The alleged offender was located and arrested. He was charged with aggravated assault and served with a police issued domestic violence order.


Got all the Abo hallmarks! They are the biggest offenders with domestic violence. Who else would do something in Darwin as viscious to his partner other than a non white vermin?

A GROUP of kid burglars are on the run – except for the youngest, aged nine, who was caught by security – after they broke into Skycity Casino and fled with a till from a cash ­register. 
 
Duty Superintendent Helen Braam said the group of six youths reportedly entered an unlocked door into Endota Day Spa about 7am Sunday.

"They got in through an unlocked door into the day spa area of the casino and removed a till from the register," Supt Braam said.

"They were running away with the till when they were challenged by security.

"Security started chasing them and they dropped the till and kept running but the nine- year-old wasn't running as fast, so he was collected by security and handed to police who took him home."

Supt Braam said police had their hands tied when it came to reprimanding the nine-year-old.

"The age of criminal res­ponsibility is 10 so we can't do anything with a nine-year-old," Supt Braam said.

Supt Braam said there was no damage to the building and no cash was stolen.

"Security retrieved the till," she said.

Supt Braam said police were reviewing CCTV footage and stills of the group attempting to rob the casino day spa.

Again you can bet urbanised Abos! what white 9 year old in Darwin at 7 am on a Sunday isn't at home with their folks?

AN ARGUMENT with his partner could have been the catalyst for a man to jump of a bridge in Katherine. 
 
Superintendent Bob Harrison said witnesses reported seeing the 52-year-old man from Lajamanu jump off the Stuart Hwy high-level bridge over the Katherine River about 10.15pm Monday.

He said police and NT emergency services immediately commenced a search for the man last night and resuming this morning.

He said search crews are looking for the man on foot and on the water in boats.

At 7.30am Tuesday, the river was at just 1.92m, and is continuing to fall since peaking at 3.5m midday Sunday.

The man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, 170cm tall and of thin build.

DARWIN'S "long grasser" (Boong)population has swollen because itinerant drunks are leaving towns with tougher ­alcohol restrictions. 
 
Police say Temporary Beat Locations – which they enforce in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Katherine – have been so successful frustrated drinkers have turned towards Darwin because they think it's an easier place to buy grog.

Police have responded by saying they will throw more police into the fight against drunken itinerants in Darwin.

During the Wet, the number of people sleeping rough in the long grass usually increases as floodwaters prevent them returning to remote communities, where alcohol is banned.

Police sources told the NT News there had been a noticeable increase in the number of long grassers(Abos) in Darwin during this Wet.

One officer said he recognised a number of people from Katherine on the streets of Darwin, whom he believed had moved to get easier access to booze.

A limited TBL trial began in Darwin at the start of last month but it's now been decided to beef up the police presence outside takeaway premises.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Anne-Marie Murphy said at least 24 officers would be on patrol near Darwin takeaway outlets.

If people are unable to prove they intend drinking ­alcohol outside of a restricted area then police are empowered to tip out their grog.

"Alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour and violence is a problem and police are always looking at alternative measures to reduce alcohol related harm to the community," Ms Murphy said.

"TBL activity is one such measure.

"There are a number of ­liquor outlets within the Darwin metropolitan division and the Casuarina division where the TBLs will be located. The locations have been identified as problematic in terms of anti-social behaviour."

It's planned to rotate the booze busters through "primary and secondary" alcohol outlets depending on the circumstances.

"Troublesome areas are generally public spaces in the proximity to liquor outlets," Ms Murphy said.
