An ACT man has admitted imprisoning a woman for more than a week, repeatedly raping her, and forcing her to carve his name into her arm.

The 26-year-old has pleaded guilty to unlawfully confining his victim between February 17 and 25 last year.

He's also pleaded guilty to recklessly inflicting actual bodily harm and four counts of sexual intercourse without consent during that period.

In the ACT Supreme Court on Tuesday, crown prosecutor Sarah McMurray said the man had taken advantage of his victim's naivety, exerting dominance and control over a vulnerable woman.

Making her carve his name into her arm was a demonstration of that dominance, serving as a permanent reminder to the victim of what she had endured, Ms McMurray said.

"The breach of trust has left her ... finding it hard to trust people," the prosecutor told Justice John Burns.

Ms McMurray said the assaults were humiliating and degrading to the victim, calling for a sentence of imprisonment.

But she told the court the man's guilty plea had spared the victim from having to give evidence at an expensive trial which could have required interpreters and witnesses from overseas. 

The man will be sentenced on November 9.

Bankstown shopping centre police were appealing for calm and restraint from the Sydney underworld.

Police — desperate to prevent any further bloodshed — visited gang associates throughout Sydney's southwest amid fears of a violent retribution for 40-year-old Ahmad's death, who had been well known in organised crime circles.

He was killed by a masked gunman on April 29 who ran up to him while he was sitting at a cafe at Bankstown Central shopping centre and shot him at close range.

But that peace could have been broken after a drive-by shooting in nearby Georges Hall this morning.

A man identifiedas Hamad Asaad, who was reportedly a suspect in Ahmad's murder, was shot dead himself. He was found lying in a pool of blood on the driveway of the Georges Hall home about 9.30am.

It is what police feared would happen after Ahmad's death.

Chilling CCTV footage of the April murder showed the killer, face covered and clad in black, running towards the table Ahmad was sitting at. The table they were sitting at is tipped over as Ahmad stands up when they see the figure running towards them.

The friend is the one who sees the gunman coming and alerts Ahmad. But it was too late. The gunman fires from only a few feet away. Ahmad, a convicted killer, drops to the ground and appears to try to grab the leg of the shooter.

He then rolls onto his back, bleeding, as his friends call triple-0. He had been shot multiple times and died at the scene.

Investigators believed Ahmad's killing could have been retribution for the murder of Safwan Charbaji earlier in April outside Ahmed's smash repair shop in Condell Park.

According to a report in The Australian, Ahmad ran one of Sydney's most feared crime syndicates, which controlled a large portion of the drug trade centred on Bankstown, Punchbowl and Condell Park in southwest Sydney..

At the time of his murder, police said they were playing close attention to two rival groups."There are two distinct crime groups now involved in a feud and they are extremely violent," a police source told The Daily Telegraph.

Speaking soon after Ahmad was shot dead, Bankstown Superintendent David Eardley appealed directly to gang associates and urged them not to take the law into their own hands.

"Leave it to us to investigate and leave it to us to identify the people involved. We will put them before the courts, they will be dealt with under our law," he said.

In the months since police have been tight-lipped about their progress in catching the killer. A spokesman recently refused to provide an update, other than the homicide inquiry was "ongoing".

They would not discuss whether they had any suspects or if they still harboured fears of revenge attacks.

A Malaysian national is being questioned over the alleged theft of $1 million from a South Melbourne bank.

Police allege a man walked into the bank in August with a fake Chinese passport and arranged to transfer and withdraw $1 million.

A 22-year-old Malaysian man was arrested this morning after two search warrants were executed in the Melbourne CBD, police said.

The man is being questioned by police however no charges have been laid.

AFRICAN Youths terrorise staff - Raid Officeworks stores across Victoria

STAFF and shoppers have been left shocked after 15 youths of African appearance walked into Officeworks and raided the store.

The youths marched into Officeworks in South Yarra and stole products including headphones and speakers on Saturday afternoon.

Police say the gang was targeting expensive headphones worth almost $400 a pair.

The gang left the store cheering and holding their stolen goods above their heads, a witness says.

The incident wasn't the first time the South Yarra Officeworks has been targeted, according to staff.

Victoria Police confirmed there are investigations into brazen robberies on four Officeworks stores this past Saturday but will not say if the thefts are linked.

Police say the first theft happened at the Chadstone store on Warrigal Rd around 3.20pm, where a group of five teens allegedly stole some headphones.

The second was at Commercial Road, South Yarra at 4.40pm, where a group of up to 15 males stole headphones and computer equipment.

The same equipment was stolen at the third robbery, around an hour later at 5.30pm at the store on the Princess Hwy in Carnegie.

A fourth incident happened at the store on the Nepean Highway, Highett around 6.20pm.

This time the group left empty-handed, after they unsuccessfully attempted to get into the store.

No one was injured at any of the incidents.

South Metropolitan Inspector Dave Griffin told 3AW the teens involved in the South Yarra raid were after "Beats" headphones.

"They must have forced some cabinets, this sort of equipment is usually locked away," Insp Griffin said.

The "Beats" Studio wireless headphones retail at Officeworks for $386.

He said police were unsure if the teens intended to sell the headphones or keep them for themselves.

Inspector Griffin said there was no sign of weapons, but that the robberies were "pretty brazen".

Police are checking Metro's CCTV, as they believe the teens were catching trains between the robberies.

They targeted stores along the Frankston and Cranbourne lines.

Insp Griffin said with the footage, police were confident of meeting up with the gang.

Chris, who witnessed the South Yarra raid, told 3AW the group was very confident committing the brazen robbery.

"One did a little jig a dance in front of me," he said.

"They were happily ransacking the shelves."

Chris said it was around 4.30pm on Saturday when a group of around 15 African youths waltzed through the doors of the Officeworks on Commercial Road, South Yarra.
He said they wore hoodies but did not keep their heads down.

"They walked straight in the store and walked through aisles, they grabbed headphones and speakers."

The store's security alarm sounded as the group left with their loot.

Once outside, Chris said the group was cheering and hollering in the carpark, raising the items they'd taken above their heads.

A staff member told Chris the same thing had happened at the Chadstone Officeworks earlier in the afternoon.

A spokesperson for Officeworks confirmed four brazen burglaries at stores across Melbourne on Saturday.

"Officeworks can confirm that there were incidents involving theft at four of its stories in the southeastern suburbs of Melbourne on Saturday," the spokesperson said.
"No Officeworks team members or customers were harmed and all affected stores remain open today with a heightened level of security,
"As the incidents are currently under police investigation, we are unable to provide further comment at this time."

Sydney gang figures trade blows in Supreme Court

Blows have been traded inside Sydney's Supreme Court during a trial over a wave of executions and shootings across the city.

Corrective services were forced to drag Mumtaz Qaumi and Mohammed Kalal away from one another as the pair fought in the dock in August.

The incident, video of which was released today, occurred midway through a secret seven-month court case where five members of the notorious Brothers 4 Life gang were on trial.

Today, renowned Sydney gangland figure and Brothers 4 Life Blacktown leader Farhad Qaumi was convicted of the manslaughter of a rival club member in 2013.

Three other high ranking figures were also found guilty of manslaughter.

Qaumi was on trial for the shooting death of Mahmoud Hamzy, who was executed in his south-western Sydney garage.

Hamzy suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died in hospital.

Hamzy's cousin Mohammed, the boss of the rival Bankstown chapter of Brothers 4 Life, was the intended target of the shooting.

Qaumi was found not guilty of the higher charge of murder.

Mahmoud Hamzy is a cousin of one of Australia's most notorious gangland figures and Supermax inmates, Bassam Hamzy.

Qaumi was shot in the shoulder when a luxury yacht he was on was peppered with bullets at Rose Bay in 2014 before his arrest.

He has already beaten two murder charges and now faces a fourth related to the death of Joe Antoun, who was gunned down in front of his two young daughters at Strathfield.

A DRIVER was surrounded by a gang of men before one jumped on the bonnet of his ute in an attempted carjacking this morning.

The victim was sitting in his red Ford utility in a car park in Laverton North when about five men of African appearance approached.

He locked his car doors tried to flee.

One of the men then jumped on the bonnet of the car.

Police want anyone who was in the area of Fitzgerald Rd about 5.30am, and who may have information, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
