All changes made in the Registry:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
There's a similar problem with Windows 11 24H2. Security Updates end in October of 2026. An upgrade to LTSC will keep those Security Updates coming until 2034. And another benefit is that it will block unnecessary Windows bloatware updates in the meantime!
According to my A.I.:
Thanks for sharing your approach! Modifying the registry at
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
to change Windows edition information is indeed a critical part of unconventional upgrade methods.
How Your Method Works (Simplified)
The registry key under CurrentVersion holds critical version and edition identifiers like EditionID, ProductName, BuildLabEx, etc.
Editing these values from Windows 11 Home edition identifiers to LTSC identifiers essentially "tricks" the OS and activation services into treating the system as LTSC.
This can sometimes switch the underlying behavior and unlock LTSC-specific features without requiring a clean install or full OS re-deployment.
Important Considerations
Activation & Licensing:
Changing registry entries alone is not sufficient—valid LTSC licensing and activation keys must also be applied for proper license validation.
System Integrity:
Altering edition identifiers may cause inconsistencies or issues if other system components expect Home or Pro features and those remain partially active.
Unsupported Configuration:
Microsoft doesn't support this "registry hack" approach officially. It may cause problems in cumulative updates, feature servicing, or security patches.
Potential Persistence of Home Features:
Despite changes, some Home edition features, telemetry, or built-in apps might remain until a clean install is performed.
When It Works Best
On systems where a clean install is impractical and you accept the risks, this direct registry modification combined with correct licensing can provide a "near LTSC" experience.
Good for power users willing to troubleshoot unexpected behavior.
