During this period, a child develops his sense of security and emotional stability, developing his strengths or weaknesses in these areas. But there is a later period of development of equal importance, and that is when a teen is coming into his own as an adult, developing his opinions and value-structure regarding the world around him. Generally this process begins at around the age of 12 or 13, and is completed for most individuals by the time that they turn 18.
This is why I encourage people to throw out their televisions. The amount of propaganda streaming into the home, literally 24 hours a day, is replacing and subverting the influence of parents. Get rid of your television- you're better of without it and so are your children.
