A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into an Alice Springs home and stole a bank card, which he then used at six different stores on a $550 shopping spree. 
 
Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said the man allegedly broke into a vehicle and a home at Larapinta on May 10, where he stole a bank card, sunglasses and keys.

"Police allege the offender used the bank card at six different stores in Alice Springs CBD to purchase food items and clothing totalling $550," he said.

The man was arrested on Thursday and was charged with stealing, interfere with a motor vehicle and six counts of criminal deception.

He will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on July 19.

AN AMBUSH stabbing in Driver has left a young family worried for their safety, with a suspect now on the run from police. 
 
25-year-old Linton Baird and his brother-in-law had just arrived home when a man allegedly set upon the pair and stabbed Linton twice in the back.

Mr Baird's two young children were upstairs with their grandmother Amelia Anderson during the attack.

"I heard this horrendous scream," she said.

"I had no choice but to lock the door, he had no choice but to run and keep running."


Ms Anderson said her son Linton knows his alleged attacker, but that she had never met him.

"This came completely out of the blue, I moved here because it's a safe, peaceful neighbourhood," she said.

Police arrived within minutes of receiving a call, shortly after 7.30pm on Thursday.

A next door neighbour performed first aid on Mr Baird, who was bleeding heavily.

Mr Baird was taken by ambulance to Royal Darwin Hospital, where he was in a stable condition before being discharged on Friday.

"He's in a lot of pain, and he's pretty groggy from all the painkillers," Ms Anderson said.

On Friday morning, Ms Anderson had the grizzly task of hosing blood stains from the garage and veranda floors at the Mahoney Circuit house.

"We don't feel safe here with the little ones," Ms Anderson said of her grandchildren, aged six and three.

Doctors told Ms Anderson that her son had two stab wounds - one in the upper back and a deeper one in his lower back.

Ms Anderson said she has been inundated with support from her extended family.

"We've had calls from all over Darwin, Alice Springs, everyone just wanting to do whatever they can to help," she said.

"The Indigenous community is so close, especially in Darwin, it's a small place and people will have their eyes peeled (for the attacker)."

Northern Territory Police Duty Superintendent Bob Harrison said an investigation into the incident is underway.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Matt Akers said police are working with witnesses to establish a clear version of events.

A YOUNG schoolboy was involved in a violent gang rape with six older men which was all filmed on a mobile phone, a court has heard. 
 
An investigation was sparked and police launched a major operation after a 20-year-old woman told police she was raped in a house in Southampton,UK, in January.

Earlier in the night it's alleged the woman had been visiting friends before walking through a subway on her way home. That's where she met one of the defendants, Mihaita Palie.

The Mirror reports that she went back to the house, where the other six were waiting, and was subjected to a horrifying four-hour ordeal, which was filmed on mobile phone.



"In this room were these defendants and they subsequently subjected her to rape and other sexual abuse as described in the indictment," Simon Foster, prosecuting, said.

The court was told that the woman managed to make her way to a phone box after the attack and was able to call police.

"She telephoned the police. They came and found her. She told them about the address in which she had spent a few hours," Foster added.

"The defendants were arrested and she later gave a three hour account in interview."

Octavian Militaru, 37, Mihaita Palie, 33, and Cosmin Nicut, 20, Radu-Florin Panciuc, 20, Nicolae Ghinea, 21, and Ion Matei, 41, and the 13 year old boy are facing a 4 week trial.

They have denied all the charges.

POLICE have renewed calls for fugitive Ronald Kelly to hand himself in on the back of revelations he has been taunting police through Palmerston and the northern suburbs. 
 
Kelly has been on the run since eluding police in a six-hour siege in Gray last month.

Police believe he may be armed after he allegedly stole a cache of weapons and ammunition from a gun safe in a home in Fannie Bay.

Detective Acting Superintendent Lee Morgan said police had "engaged" Kelly on a number of occasions, including car and foot chases.

The latest was overnight on Sunday.


Acting Supt Morgan said on all occasions, the "elusive" Kelly had slipped away after police called off the chase.

"A lot of these sightings are at night, and we don't want to put Mr Kelly or police at risk of injury," Acting Supt Morgan said. "If the situation becomes dangerous, it's safest for everyone to terminate – whether it be a car chase or foot pursuit.

"Him running and jumping fences at night puts him and police at risk of injury."

He said all sightings had been in Palmerston or the northern suburbs.

Police believed he may have been involved in several property offences, including car thefts, in the past weeks.

Acting Supt Morgan said police were now "ramping up" efforts to find him.

"The search is tying up a lot of resources that could be used to investigate other matters; that's why we're now ramping up these efforts to bring the situation to an end quicker."

Police and Crime Stoppers have offered a $1000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the 22-year-old.
