THE woman accused of fatally stabbing the sister of Minister Bess Price has been found guilty of her murder in the NT Supreme Court.

The jury found Yvette Bennie, 33, guilty of stabbing Rosalie Edmonds with a kitchen knife at Warlpiri Camp near Katherine on April 29, 2014.

Minister Bess Price did not want to comment on the verdict today.

The court heard Bennie faced a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 20 years.

A MAN*COON* accused of wearing a mask made famous in the horror movie Scream during an attack on a taxi driver was refused bail in Darwin Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

John Micairan faced court on 36 charges, with 24 of the offences allegedly committed between October 10 and 16.

Police alleged some of the charges related to a 14-hour crime spree across Darwin on October 15 which left homes and cars damaged.

Micairan was charged with stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, going into public armed and unlawful entry.

Police also charged a 17-year-old male and 16-year-old female in relation to the alleged crime spree.


They will both appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court on Friday.

The trio were arrested by detectives from Strike Force Trident earlier this week.

It is alleged the spree began when the trio stopped a taxi on Old McMillans Rd in Coconut Grove about midnight.

They allegedly approached the taxi wearing the Scream masks and attacked the car with baseball bats. The mask allegedly used by Micairan was famously worn by the killers in the horror movie franchise.

The taxi driver and passenger escaped the incident *^@&!unharmed.

Later in the day they allegedly threatened people at the Lee Point Caravan Park with a tomahawk and stole fuel from a service station in Eaton.

Micairan sat in the dock with bare feet yesterday.

The 22-year-old told Magistrate Greg Smith he wanted to be released on bail so he could support his mother.

"Between me and my mum it's been a lot harder at home and I think she gives me some mental and physical support," he told the court. "I just want to be there for my mother."

Mr Smith said missing mum was not a reason to be granted bail.

He refused his release because of he severity of the charges laid against Micairan.

A MAN and a teenager accused of robbing a taxi driver while armed with baseball bats are facing a string of charges over a week-long crime spree in Darwin.

The 22-year-old and 17-year-old are accused of a break-in, aggravated assault, stealing, crashing a car and arson around Nightcliff in Darwin's northern suburbs between October 10 and 16.

They were also believed to have been involved in a service station drive-off during the spree which was caught on CCTV.

The man will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today and the teenager in the Darwin Youth Justice Court on Friday.

A HORSE was left bloodied and horrifically injured after an assailant attacked the animal with a metal object.

The ferocity of the attack left Macca, a 20-year-old gelding, with a gash on his muzzle so deep it cut to the bone.

Police are investigating the incident as an act of animal cruelty.

Macca was donated to charity Riding for the Disabled at Catalina Rd, Marlow Lagoon last week.

The charity's centre manager Lesley Monro said Macca was treated by a vet and was recovering from his injuries.


She said the horses became restless around 3am.

"The horses were calling. When they are under stress or pressure or can't see they call. We got up and went outside. They were running around but we couldn't see anything," she said.

Yesterday morning Ms Monro couldn't find Macca in the stable.

"He was down in the bushes. We couldn't find him when we got here this morning and he was among all the trees looking very forlorn.

"I couldn't believe it. We walked him back and called the vet straight away."

She said it was the 11th time the centre had been the target of thieves and vandals in the past year.

Ms Monro said thieves targeted the centre twice in the days leading up to the attack on Macca. She said earlier in the year two cars and a television were stolen.

Ms Monro and her partner Ian have operated Riding for the Disabled to 15 years.

She said the horses brought joy to around 120 children with disabilities each week.

Territory police Superintendent Daniel Shean said Macca's injury was consistent with being hit by an object.

"The horse was recently donated to the riding school which caters for people with disabilities to participate in equine related activities in a safe environment," he said.

"It is disappointing to think a person could deliberately injure a horse in such a way and I urge anyone who can assist in this matter to contact police."
