TERRITORY Police have arrested two men in relation to the alleged abduction of three German backpackers earlier this week. 
 
A police spokeswoman confirmed Paul Alley and Ashley Matz, were arrested this Friday morning at a house in Moil.

"The arrest took place without incident," she said.

Police yesterday released the photographs of the men, and sought public assistance in locating them.

The two men are currently being questioned in relation to the alleged abduction, theft and assault of the backpackers, who were sleeping in their car.

A YOUNG German backpacker had a broken bottle held to his neck and was forced to withdraw money from his ATM account during an hour-long abduction involving him and two friends. 
 
Before being forced to access the ATM at the Hibiscus Shopping Centre, the three German tourists were assaulted and threatened with broken bottles.

It's understood their two attackers also took the men's bank cards and mobile phones before stealing their car, which was found burnt out near the Leanyer Recreation Park about 30 minutes after the ATM robbery.

Australian Abos on the rampage

The ordeal began about 10pm on Tuesday at a property on Casuarina Drive, where the three were assaulted and forced into their own car by the attackers.

Property owner Manolis Darkadakis said he had befriended the young backpackers and allowed them to stay at his place after they had been fined for illegal camping by council rangers.

The three were camping outside on the block when their attackers walked on to the property.

"They don't have a bad bone in their bodies," Mr Darkadakis said yesterday.

"They obviously come from good families and they seem like good young kids."

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Karl Day said a manhunt was now under way for the attackers, who were described as two strongly built Aboriginal men, one of whom had a "mullet" hairstyle.

"The three victims were set upon by these two males. They were physically assaulted and threatened with a broken bottle," Snr-Sgt Day said.

"There were certainly further physical assaults inflicted upon the victims inside the vehicle."

This included a bottle being smashed over one of the three and the driver being punched.

"They sustained injuries to their face, superficial cuts and bruises, black eyes and injuries like that."

Snr-Sgt Day said it appeared the attack was "random" and did not seem to have been planned.

Police have been assisted in their investigation by what Snr-Sgt Day said was "some great information" from the public. One of he alleged offenders is described as a man of Aboriginal appearance who is about 185cm tall and with an athletic build.

The second is also of Aboriginal appearance and is about 190cm tall with a solid build, a mullet-style haircut and a tattoo on his stomach.
