A SHORT video was posted on Facebook on Monday and appears to show the moment a female officer prepares to discharge her taser at a heavily tattooed Victorian man.

Gold Coast Inspector Shane Holmes says an investigation found the officer's actions were lawful and reasonable.

"When this gentleman unexpectedly reached into the car, the officers immediately feared for their safety and drew the taser as a precaution," he told News Corp.

"It emerged he was retrieving his ID but the officers were not to know this and their actions were completely appropriate in the circumstances."

Insp Holmes said the man wasn't "just a random Victorian tourist" and was pulled over after officers noticed a gang-type tattoo on the man's neck and cheeks which they say revealed he was a Rebels bikie gang member.

In the footage, viewed more than 1.4 million times, the officer says to the man: "We have legislation down here, if we identify a potential member of a criminal motorcycle gang we have the power to stop, detain and search you".

When the man asks if his neck tattoos were the sole reason for being pulled over, she replies: "Yep, absolutely".

Matters escalate when the man then refuses to hand over his mobile phone and the officer aims her Taser at him.

According to the post on his partner Hayley Van Hostauyen's Facebook page, the pair had just touched down in Queensland for a holiday when the alleged incident happened.

"I have no club gear on at all they simply seen me and my partner Hayley at a red light, noticed a 13 tattooed on my neck and pulled us over," the man wrote.

The Queensland Police Union also said the officer had acted reasonably.

"Police correctly identified the man as a potential member of a criminal motorcycle gang," President Ian Leavers said in a statement.

"I fully support them showing extreme caution when they spoke with him as they would not have been certain of whether he was armed."

He said the Gold Coast region was a hotspot for gang activity as well as a tourist destination and police were right to remain vigilant.

POLICE believe an (Asian) man involved in a siege that gridlocked the city for almost three hours was in the grip of a mental illness.

The man stormed a cafe at 360 La Trobe St armed with a cleaver before smashing windows in an upstairs restaurant, holding police at bay.

No customers were present at either business and staff left without incident.

The man brandished a knife and appeared to threaten self-harm while throwing fruit, glass and a backpack from the window.

The man, who is believed to live in Springvale and has no family in Australia, shouted demands included wanting to see his mother while police responded they would contact the Department of Immigration.

NT Police are searching for 19-year-old Johnathon Hogan who breached his suspended jail term yesterday. 
 
A police spokesman said Hogan was spotted in Katherine East jumping over residential fences on Monday night.

He was wearing a yellow and black football singlet.

A PAIR of four-month-old emus were rescued from filthy conditions in a home near Alice Springs by police on Saturday.

Police were tipped off the emus were being kept in the bedroom of a Hermannsburg property, 127km west of Alice Springs.

Duty Superintendent Del Jones said when officers arrived at the house they found the emus surrounded by animal faeces. She said the owner brought the emus from Western Australia and intended to keep them as pets.

She said Sergeant Melissa Sanderson and Constable Sam Hyson discovered the owner did not have a permit to keep the native animals.

Police seized the emus and kept them in the cells of Hermannsburg police station until carers from animal welfare group Wildcare arrived.

A DARWIN sporting community was on the receiving end of its second act of vandalism in a week after a group of youths trashed a soft drink fridge on Saturday night.

Hockey NT staff spent Sunday morning sweeping up glass and storing soft drinks in the centre's canteen following the second attack.

Police arrested seven youths aged 11 to 14 after the glass doors of the fridge were smashed with a rock at about 11pm on Saturday.

Police were tipped off by someone who allegedly saw the youths in the centre.

Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said three 13-year-old boys and a 12-year-old boy were arrested by officers from Strike Force Trident and charged with criminal damage, stealing and trespassing.


She said three youths were released on a youth diversion order.

Superintendent Jorgensen said it was disappointing to see young offenders target the community club.

It is alleged the teens stole some soft drinks from the fridge.

A member of the club, who did not want to be named, said it was the second fridge destroyed in one week.

Malcolm Turnbull was elected to federal parliament in 2004 in the Sydney seat of Wentworth. Firstly though Turnbull had to win Liberal Party preselection by beating the then Liberal Party federal MP Peter King. So Turnbull did what any proud crook would do.
