Granting Asylum to White South African 'Perverse,' Ottawa Says

The federal government has denounced as "perverse" a refugee board ruling that granted asylum to white South African Brandon Huntley on the grounds he could face persecution in his homeland because of his skin color.

In a written submission to the Federal Court of Canada, the government said the ruling that Mr. Huntley's claim was "justified" is unreasonable and based on a "jaundiced assessment", by the one-man board, of conditions within South Africa.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is asking the Federal Court for permission to seek a judicial review of the ruling by board member William Davis.

Mr. Davis' ruling in late August sparked outrage in South Africa where, among other things, the governing African National Congress said the reasoning behind the decision "can only serve to perpetuate racism."

In Ottawa, Abraham Sokhaya Nkomo, South Africa's ambassador to Canada, told Canwest News Service Mr. Davis's ruling was shocking and could seriously damage relations between the two countries.

Within days, the federal government announced it was taking the rare step of appealing a decision by the Immigration and Refugee Board.

The federal submission took Davis to task for effectively accepting Huntley's argument that he did not seek police protection after allegedly being attacked six or seven times by black South Africans because he did not trust a police force dominated by blacks to help him.

It said Mr. Huntley, who hails from Cape Town, failed to provide "clear and convincing" evidence of the South African government's inability to protect him.

Mr. Davis' implicit acceptance of Mr. Huntley's argument represents a "disturbing view" that "rests largely on the board's jaundiced assessment of the country conditions," the government said.

It took strong issue with the statement by Mr. Huntley, who is living in Ottawa, he would stick out like a "sore thumb" because of his colour if he was forced to live anywhere in South Africa.

Dismissing the statement as "unreasonable and perverse," the government cited figures from Statistics South Africa that said whites form a sizeable minority in the country, ranging from 23.9% of the population of Pretoria, for example, to 16% in both Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg.

The government said that while it is "indisputable" that crime is prevalent in South Africa, all South Africans are affected, regardless of race.

Has white guilt gotten to the point where the mud can declare war on us in the mother land and not be attacked?You would think that parasites like these would want to go un- noticed,but  they openly display their hatred of us in our own lands!

It would seem only white people are ever charged with hate crimes,as if whites are the only ones who can be racist.I live in unfortunatly a large multi cultural city,and have noticed that the differnt mud groups are much more open about their racism towards other mud groups,they attack each other all the time all based on race,but are never charged with a hate crime? In Vancouver not too long ago,3 skinny white boys were caught on film attacking a black man,they did no damage the black man was not hurt at all....yet it made global news! Then i see a story in Kentucky? where a group of blacks killed and toutured a young white couple.....does not even make national American news?It seems the media or global elite want to provoke one race,and keep the other asleep.

I think we should start a contest on who can make the best Creativity Alliance logo and they could win some kind of prize wether it be one of the holy books of Creativity or a flag etc..

I really think the Creativity alliance needs a logo to differentiate it's self from the other "creators".

The logo should have the words "creativity Alliance" in it and have the Creativity Logo. You can add whatever else you want in it like a background or something.

One in five Toronto police officers is a member of a racial minority—a near doubling in under a decade, according to police employment statistics.

Mark Pugash, a spokesman for Toronto Police Services, said yesterday the numbers reflect a concerted effort over the last decade to welcome new people into the service.

"It's about ensuring that the service is more reflective of the city that we serve," he said. "We know that there's a long way to go but what is important, I think, is that the numbers are moving very much in the right direction."

Of the 5,500 police officers in the city, 18.6% or 1,068 members are representatives of racial minorities, up from 16.9% in 2007 and 9.5% in 2000.

Almost 22% of police constables hail from minority communities.

30 YEARS

The percentage of racial minorities in the service's civilian arm is even higher—32.2%—because the staff tends to turn over more quickly than in the rest of the service, Pugash said.

"Once people join as police officers, they tend to spend a minimum of 30 years," he said.

Women are 17.5% of the force, an increase of about 5% since the year 2000.

Female officers make up 18.2% of the detectives and 14.1% of senior brass.

Currently, women head up the homicide, fraud and sex assault units.

There are only 63 officers, or 1.1% of the service, of aboriginal background, but none hold a rank higher than sergeant. But Pugash said the service is constantly reaching out to aboriginals, women, racial groups and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered communities.

While these people are still under-represented, employment figures show definite improvement with every new class of recruits, Pugash said.
