I looked high and low for an old meme which explains how the EU flag came about, then discovered this. 3 Jews designed the flag which has 12 stars instead of 28, representing the 28 member states. The reason given for only 12 stars? If this flag represents "solidarity among the peoples of Europe", then why omit 14 countries?

Oddly enough, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the number of original member countries. It was a design esthetic choice. The 12 golden stars in a circle on a blue background symbolize the ideals of unity, solidarity and harmony among the peoples of Europe.
