Dove has apologised after an advertisement was criticised as "racist" for showing a black woman removing her brown t-shirt and turning into a white woman after using body wash.

A make-up artist spotted the ad and shared screenshots on her Facebook page.
"What does America tell black people ... that we are judged by the colour of our skin," she said in a comment.
The screenshots of the ad, which has now been removed, attracted criticism on social media, with some linking it to a historical legacy of racism in soap ads.

Extract: RUSSIA'S meddling in US politics and society ahead of the 2016 presidential election keeps getting weirder.

A new report by CNN shows Russia even used the previously popular smartphone game Pokemon Go to carry out its insidious agenda.

One Russian-linked campaign posed as part of the Black Lives Matter movement and was titled "Don't Shoot Us".

The Don't Shoot Us YouTube page, which is simply titled "Don't Shoot," contains more than 200 videos which all link back to a donotshoot.us website.

The investigation found the website was linked to a Tumblr account which promoted a contest encouraging readers to play Pokemon Go. It specifically encouraged them to play the game at sites where police shootings of black men and alleged incidents of police brutality had occurred.

Users were instructed to give their Pokemon names that corresponded with those of the victims, CNN reported.

A post promoting the contest showed a Pokemon named "Eric Garner" who was the African-American man who died after being put in a chokehold by a New York policeman.

It's unclear how many people, if any, actually participated in the challenge (which promised Amazon gift cards to the winners) or exactly what the promotion hoped to accomplish.

But it appears it was one of the more bizarre ploys by Russia to stoke division by promoting protests against police mistreatment of African-Americans while simultaneously spreading fear about the movement to other social media users.

The Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts belonging to the Don't Shoot Us group are currently suspended.

Extract: Earlier this week, dozens of NSW students took to a public HSC Discussion Group Facebook page to abuse Ms van Neerven, an award-winning Indigenous author after they were asked to analyse her poem, Mango, in English Paper One.

Mr Provost denied the abuse was racially motivated. Rather, he claimed, it related to the infinite monkey theorem, that if you put an infinite number of monkeys in front of a keyboard the probability is one will write a work of literature.

"It was just a playful l joke made in the moment of a stressful situation of the HSC."

"It was like someone has thrown a typewriter over the fence at Taronga Zoo and they've just pumped out a poem for us."

"I went home, typed in 'infinite monkey theorem', grabbed the first photo, put it up and said, LEAKED IMAGE OF THE AUTHOR OF 'MANGO'.

"I had no clue she was indigenous and if I did I understand the connotations of monkeys and people of colour — given that knowledge I wouldn't have posted," he said.
Mr Provost criticised the media for taking the meme out of context.

He claimed he had received death threats and a Facebook message calling him a "racist pig" that should die.

"Mum even got a message — I told her to turn off her phone," he said.

A Queensland mother has slammed a "racist" and "harmful" Queensland Government advertisement which featured her son without her knowledge, and is now calling for greater discussion about institutionalised racism.

The advertisement, which was featured on the Teach Queensland Facebook page, depicted a number of young Indigenous boys sitting with a white teacher, who was quoted as saying, "I have a soft spot for the troublemaker or the kid that everyone thought wouldn't make it".

The post sparked heavy criticism online and was pulled from social media, with the Queensland Department of Education and Training issuing a statement "apologising unreservedly for the offence caused".

Dr Chelsea Bond, the mother of one of the young Indigenous boys in the post, was only made aware of her son's involvement in the advertisement after she stumbled across it online.

She said she was "deeply disappointed" in the post, which she said perpetrated harmful stereotypes and victimised her son.

"When I looked and saw my son was in there, I was shocked ... and I'm really disappointed that my son would be framed like that, but unfortunately I'm not surprised," she said.

"As the mother of that child I just think I don't need you to come and save my kids ... he's a really smart kid, it's almost funny because it was so far removed from the truth.

"I can show his NAPLAN results that show he's awesome ... his Grade 3 reading results were off the charts."

Dr Bond, a lecturer in Indigenous Studies at the University of Queensland, said while she appreciated that the post was quickly removed and that she was offered a personal apology, she would like to see further action from the Government to try and tackle racist stereotyping.

"It just so happens this kid's mum is a university lecturer and has a platform to speak out," she said.

"We're imagined in a way that doesn't reflect who we are and the only way we can be better is to be more like white people, or be saved by white people."

'Do they think I'm a troublemaker?'
A spokesperson for the Queensland Department of Education and Training said those involved in putting the post together would be offered training.

"The department is committed to supporting the education of every student in every state school across Queensland," the spokesperson said.

"The department is contacting families of students in the image and responding to members of the public who raised concerns.

"The officers concerned have been counselled and required to undertake cultural awareness training."

But Dr Bond said cultural training would not ensure it did not happen again, and said she wanted to see a broader conversation about how institutionalised racism damages Indigenous people.

"At the age of 11, [my son's] first response seeing the images was shock, and saying, 'Do they think I'm a trouble-maker?' she said.

"He not only saw the image but he read the narrative.

"Why didn't someone in the process of putting together that image, and that quote and then publishing ... how did they not work it out [that it was offensive]?"

The Queensland Education Minister was unavailable for comment.
