A SOUTH Australian truck driver who made a viral racist video with the election poster of a Port Augusta Council candidate has apologised to the victim — and has avoided being charged for the tirade.

Grant Moroney, of Grant Moroney Trucking, filmed himself making a series of racist claims alongside the corflute of Sunny Singh — an Indian immigrant and transport manager who is standing to become a councillor in Port Augusta.

Mr Singh has dropped charges against Mr Moroney.

"The charges were going to be about him tearing the poster down but I'm not taking it any further," he said.

"He did apologise to me and to my family in a text message.

"He thought it was funny ... but I told him that it wasn't funny.
Mr Singh believed the truckie had learnt his lesson after losing a contract with fuel supplier Mogas Regional the day after the video appeared on a trucking Facebook page.

Police are still investigating whether to report Mr Moroney over the use of mobile phone while driving.

In the video, Mr Moroney conducts a series of insult-laden conversations with the cardboard cutout of Mr Singh, which was dressed in the likeness of hi-vis workwear, in his road train.

See, in the 1970's that kind of humour was fine on mainstream TV. Mogas won't support his business just because he had a laugh by getting a cardboard cut out of a brown ,curry genie and belted it up?!
