Here's one for all you car nuts.

It's made by General Motors Australia (GMH - General Motors Holden) and is what Australians call the Holden VF Commodore SS (Super Sport) - and now it is being shipped to the US re-badged as the Chevrolet SS, and soon to be racing at Daytona. Previously the VE Commodore was re-badged for the US as the Pontiac G8

Chevrolet SS Banned in Israel Over Nazi Related Name

Recently unveiled at the Daytona International Speedway, Chevrolet's brand new 2014 SS high-performance sedan will not be imported to Israel because of its nazi related name.

According to a Yedioth Ahronoth report, Chevrolet's high performance sedan will not be welcomed in Israel as long as it bears the SS nameplate, one that "will not bring them pride or success", said Baruch Shuv, manager of the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.

The Daytona debuting car is not the first SS in the Chevrolet range, but it's certainly the first car who can get in trouble for its name. We wonder if there's any Camaro SS in Israel...

While we acknowledge the importance of Holocaust awareness, we really think a clear distinction between simple suffixes and wartime killing machines is needed.
