The number of marriages between Russian citizens and foreigners on the Russian territory is in steady decline the past three years, according to data from the Department of Justice cited in a panel at the Duma on Monday.

If 68,499 international marriages were registered in Russia in 2007, their number rose to 60,627 in 2008 and 29,317 during the first half of 2009.

According to departmental data, the Russians prefer to marry people of former Soviet republics, including Ukraine (18,984 marriages in 2007, 16,143 in 2008 and 7298 during the first half of 2009) and Armenia (in 9452 2007, 8851 in 2008 and 4144 during the first six months of the year).

Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan are among the top 10 countries whose citizens are united in wedlock with the Russians.

Side Europe, the Germans, British, Lithuanians, Italians and French who are most often marry in Russia.
Nationals Turkish, Israeli, American and Chinese often formalize their relationship with Russians.
