Scam Attempt Sent to Phone

Received this scam attempt on my phone this morning. It could be Gooks or Africoons, but it's typically Indian Scammers - Paki Bastards!

E-Tag Payment Reminder: Your have a E-Toll bill verified as unpaid. If you do not pay manually, a penalty notice will be sent. trip-est-toll.link

Written in bad English. And it uses two different toll company names - as if that would somehow suck me in?

Remember, I'm in South Australia. There are no toll roads in SA. This tracks to New South Wales. A state on the East Coast more than a thousand klicks away. I do not have an account with any toll collectors in SA or in any other state, so no toll company anywhere should know my phone number. I have not been to NSW since 1997. And I have not driven or ridden (a non-military vehicle) in NSW since 1991. It's just a scam.

Customers should be aware of scam emails and SMS messages claiming to be from E-Toll or other toll providers.

Please be vigilant and ensure you DO NOT open files or click on links in unexpected emails or SMS messages.

E-Toll only send text messages to customers who have opted in to SMS, and our text messages do not contain random links.

We will never ask you to click on a link to make a payment.

If you need to access your account for any reason, be sure to only ever log in on the E-Toll website and not via any other links or websites.


Linkt e-tag toll road scam asking Australians to pay a small fee but then fleecing thousands

Motorists are being warned that thousands of Australians are falling victim to brazen scam that begins with a text message asking for an outstanding road toll to be paid.

The scam is targeting users of Linkt and other e-tags - small plastic devices that attach to windshields and automatically register tolls - which work Australia-wide.

The text claims a toll, usually only a few dollars, failed to be deducted and asks the recipient to pay via a website to avoid additional larger charges.

But the website is a fake which looks and has a web address almost identical to the genuine site and, once credit card details are entered, scammers then quickly drain bank accounts.

Transurban, which owns Linkt, and the NSW Government's E-toll said they will never send texts asking for payment, so ignore them and block the number.

Never click on a link in a text or email to navigate to the Linkt or E-toll websites but enter the address manually or use the app.

Ignore any messages that don't look legitimate, for example with poor spelling or from an overseas number or that have strange links.
