If you like MMA but are worried that there aren't enough swords and armour involved, have I got a sport for you. 
 
M-1 Medieval Knight Fighting is exactly what is sounds like - a full-on brutal combat tournament between armoured knights.

   

This is not play-acting either, these guys are ready to rumble.

You can kick, punch and elbow, grapple, strike an opponent with your shield and of course with your sword.

The exact rules are still being worked out but strikes to the back of the neck, spine and feet are not allowed, and neither are headbutts.

Some fans are still not happy though.

"Make it with lighter armor, more blood, cuts," one suggests on their Facebook page.

"Also a knight who loses has his head cut off by the winner."

The response from the promoter is pragmatic.

"We did this 800 years ago, but ran out of fighters eventually."



Fights are currently held on the undercard of regular MMA events, but M-1 president Vadim Finkelchtein told MMAFighting.com that he plans on making it a separate event.

"If we find enough fighters to make enough fights, we will have a separate medieval show with its own weight categories, title fights and champions."
