Though I'm quick to point out the time and money wasted exploring the void, technology like the observatory and space telescopes give us a unique opportunity to truly see how small we are in relation to the cosmos.

And in a time without an all enveloping world war, the advancement of technology tends to slow to level of the the wants and needs of your typical Jewish businessman, and that's when we need  realistic space exploration to act as a technological goal for the advancement of our race and nation. That is, realistic as in exploring our own solar system for the immediate benefit of the people of Earth, rather than off-world utopias and Trekkie BS.
